Michelin Cross Terrains
I have had the CTs on my 4Runner since day one. Had one blow out at 25K so I bought a new one and installed the unused spare as well. After 55K miles, I replace the two older front ones with newer ones.
I agree that the CTs are very smooth and quiet and seem to have the excellent tread life that Michelins are noted for. I live in the snowbelt of NE Ohio (one of the few true lake effect snow areas in the country) and I must admit I am and have been somewhat disappointed by the CTs on snow and slick roads. I think the Michelin Hydroedge tires on (now my daughter's) 1992 Camry are much better on the wet stuff.
I think next time around I may go for the Nittos or Revos so keep your feedback coming!

2007 Limited 18 Inch Suggestions
Great discussion, thanks all. I'm coming up on 20k on my factory Duelers and figured the next step was to purchase the Revos after all the great things I've read here, but it doesn't appear they offer the Revos in 265/60/18. Any suggestions for the 18 inch wheels?

I would skip the Revos , nice all season tire and nice ride "P" rating. I personally like the ride and quiet , and wet road traction in rain. I never thought much of them off road wise , in snow , looks like an all season more than an all terrain. Nice tire's but depends on what your wanting for performance or looks . I was never overly impressed with them in snow as how they were talked about on here how good they were. I now have 36k on them , still ride nice , nice wet/rain tire , pretty quiet , traction is really suffering this winter in the snow . I've driven in 3 storms of different moisture content this year and not impressed . I would like to get rid of them by 40k. That will be my comfort zone with these tires for snow / off road.
I would look into the following , Nitto TG , BFG AT or GY wrangler Silent Armor.

Nearly two years later, and I now have a lot of first hand experience with the KOs. At 40k miles they've seen about two thousand miles worth of rock crawling and high speed, rough, washboard dirt road abuse with no flats. The sidewall lugs are chunking off a bit but the tires stay in balance. The small amount of usage in the snow has done nothing but impress. If I decide my future off-pavement usage will continue in anywhere near a similar fashion, I won't consider another tire.

Stockers were the 265/65/17 Dunlop Grandtrek AT20's, changed to 265/70/17 Yokohama Geolander AT-S at around 30K and am now much happier.

I switched to Nitto TGs about 20K miles ago and have been very impressed. :bigok: They are a great dual purpose tire. Their on-road manners are excellent, yet they still get the job done off-road. I'm an avid skier and have put many snow miles on them up to Mt. Bachelor and over Santiam Pass and they continue to impress. A tire is a personal choice, but the Nitto TG should definitely be considered.

How about the Toyo Open Country A/Ts. Anybody have any comments about these tires? It seems as if they come in my stock size (265/65/17) so I am considering them.

Toyos and Nitto TGs are pretty similar and i'm veryn happy with everything about my Nittos which includes dry and wet performance and the price is nice.
BFG Rugged Trails seem to get so-so reviews and are probably fine for a street tire with some mild off road intentions but they aren't for the rough stuff.

i rode the dunlop grandtrek at20s for 52,259 miles and then i upgraded to 285/70-17 cooper discoverer stt's, and now I feel like my truck is what its supposed to be! Im stoked! (only been 200 miles 
)
the dunlops proably had another couple thousand miles left on them, but a couple of them were wearing on the outer edge and had nails so......f'em!

My SSR-G came with bridgestone duelers, got rid of them ASAP and picked up a set of pirelli scorpoin ATRs (stock 265/65R17's)
2 reasons were, duelers are no good ofr our roads, 2 good (fresh) tyres are hard to come by here as most dealers change the date stamp on the tyres so i had no other choice BUT to buy pirellis (my friend is the sole agent for pirelli in PK).

2004 came with Michelin Cross Terrains which lasted an absurdly long time. They handled great but were'nt aggressive enough for a 4x4. 2 wheel drive truck maybe ok. No complaints except they lasted so long and I didn't want to replace them before they were worn out.
Nitto TG's on it now. Look great. The tech at 4x4 Parts said they should have put those on at the factory they look so good. Handle well on and off road. There's an annoying hum/tread vibration that I can feel in the steering wheel while going straight on the highway. It disappears in the slightest turn. Weird.
Didn't want to spend the money for BFG AT's but probably will next time, since they've done so well on my other 4x4's.

Change to Michelin
Mine came with the Dunlap AT20. Changed them to Michelin X Radial LT. The Michelin's did well this past winter in the snow. Much better ride than the Dunlap's. Have not had the chance to check them out off road. I spend most of my driving on pavement, but spend some time in the mountains of New Mexico on un-paved roads mostly.
