What was your first mod/alteration after buying your 4R?

First mods we did was cosmetic. Have a white 2018, plastidip wheels and emblems, tint windows, install stickers (one of the is a storm trooper decal)

My First quick mods were electrical components. 1st mod was hardwiring my radar detector from my previous vehicle. Then I new added a CarPlay head unit and wired in a back up cam. Easily added a hardwired streamlight stinger (tapped the cams power)

Pics and details on the CarPlay head unit. Can’t you use the stock backup cam?

If you just want a firmer ride buy 5100’s for the front and set them to the first setting. This will level your rig and reduce nose dive. This is a super cost effective option under 400 total.

Also yes Nokian is made in Russia but still a good tire.

If you are looking for a cost effective A/T tire that performs well in snow and rain I would suggest the Falken AT3W wildpeak Prated not LT. the P rated wildpeak comes with a silica compound mixed in and is lighter which makes a better gripping tire in winter weather.

If you plan on rock crawling or towing then get LT. they are half the price of duratracs and 50% less than KO2’s with similar performance.

I got the Rotiivas, shop near me gave me a good deal, $625 out the door with a $50 rebate coupon. So far I like them, they seem a bit slippery on wet roads, but I still have to break them in.

No plans for rock crawling for now, just occasional light off-roading, just to exercise my 4WD gears.

Interesting note: ride got firmer with the new tires, I an guessing the OEM tires were really soft and added to the "floaty" feel.


I'll keep the Falken in mind for next time.

Nice! Yeah I will get a set of the winter tires from Nokian but I live full time in the mountains. Just got my Falkens mounted and balanced today [emoji6]

I have the Limited and got rid of the 20" wheels. Went with 17" wheels and KO2 tires. This was necessary for airing down to 15-18 psi while driving on sand. I hit the beach every summer weekend for fishing. Never looked back.

Why is this necessary? Honestly asking.

I bought an LE this summer that has the 20 inch with the geolanders.

I aired down to 15psi and drove all over Assateague National Seashore OSV for 2 days without any issues.

Does it depend on the type of sand in your area? ie hard packed vs deep & loose? I would say assateague is the latter.

Larger wheels = Less rubber between wheel (rims) and outer tire (tread).

Smaller wheels are more forgiving when it comes to airing down. Less risk of breaking the bead.

This scenario may or may not be an issue with sand, but an issue with rocky terrain.

On my first 5th gun it was the hidden LED lightbar from Rago. On my current 5th gen I bought a lightly used Gobi Rack then I redid my sliders from my previous 5th gen and put those on

Tires (KO2's), mats (Husky), and a level kit (Cornfed).

Lights (Baja Designs) and roof rack came two weeks later (Prinsu).

New struts/coilovers and rear springs/shocks (5100s/Eibach adjustable collars) and KO2s at 350mi.

I was trying to get rid of the nose dive and side to side wallowing while adding a bit of clearance. Honestly from day one I wasn’t really happy with the setup, should have upgraded to the 650lb front springs to begin with. That being said it was better than stock, just not THAT much better.
