What went in this slot from the factory?

Have you ever wondered what this switch hole was really meant for?...




The only thing I can think of would be the side mirror switch.

Anyone know what this was meant for and if any U.S. models had anything there?

what I understand is that the door window switches didn't have the side mirror switch. Like another "base" model design that left that out and put it where the picture shows...

I'm wondering if there is another other switch out there (Toyota or Lexus) that has the same fitment/shape as the side mirror switch.

anyone see anything out there that could work in that space?

The LC locker switch can fit there with a lil bit of whittling, that can't be seen with switch in place.

Mirror switch goes there on trucks with manual windows. All 3rd gens have power mirrors, but not all have power windows.

The plug is even there for it behind the dash on power window trucks...

I think Toyota has a change tray/cubby that fits in the same size opening, but with the dash tipped like it is there, it wouldn't work well... (I have one in my Camry, I suppose I could check the fit...)

Well I have to print a retraction. My 4R is bone-stock and has power windows and has the power mirror switch on the armrest. There's a dummy plate in the pictured spot. I was thinking of my FJ62 when I said my mirror switch was as-pictured.

hahah. I forgot what vehicle I found that on.. but collectively, we all should get a master list of all these switched and the types of cars you can find them in.

Overtime I go to the salvage yard I'm on the hunt for OEM style switches for future use. I love the OEM look and want to maintain the "stock" look when it comes to placing switches in places they "shouldn't" be.

btw, love the progress you are making on the outbound shock mounts and the LCA limiting strap design you're working on. Keep me updated.

Not true. Not all 3rd gens have power mirrors. My base model does not so this spot is empty.

That spot was for mirror control. On some 4 cylinder models. You have manual windows so the area where the window control could go was not there.

That spot is empty on my 97. But I do have factory power mirrors. The controls are next to the power window controls.
