What would dealership charge to replace radiator?

Bumping this old thread because I can't make new posts yet...

Just curious for those of you who changed the radiator yourself did it require bleeding the A/C dryer line? Stealership tried to tell me it was necessary and tack on an extra ~$100 and I told them to kick rocks. Seems that should have been in the initial quote if it was necessary.

This is the exact reason why stealerships should be avoided like the plague. My local Toyota dealership is totally worthless also except the parts department.

I would totally call them out on it. Think about how many people are ripped off by them daily...

I know you're totally right, I hate them all... I only brought it in for a timing belt / water pump change since I know that's a pretty technical job beyond my ability. Had them do the radiator (trying to avoid the milkshake) since I talked them down to a decent price and was honestly too lazy to do it myself right now. Gonna put a tranny cooler on this spring though.

I've heard they like to charge full labor hour price for both WP and TB, even though maybe 15-20 minutes extra is all that is needed to do the WP once the TB has been pulled. I've heard some dealers insist on it even when challenged.

I did my own so I have not experienced this myself.

Do the radiator replacement yourself. It's a VERY easy job and only requires basic tools.

Here's a video where I cover replacing the radiator, replacing the thermostat and adding an external trans cooler ran in-series with the trans cooler in the radiator:

I absolutely agree with you. I love the people who work in the parts department at my local dealership because they're friendly, helpful and give me a discount, but the service department can go f*ck themselves. $150/hr and they don't give anyone a break. My local dealership must make a fortune off the service department. Every time I go there for parts, there's a line of people with their cars waiting to get bent over with no lube.

Amen brotha.

My local dealership must have the dumbest mechanics on planet earth. Our steering intermediate shaft on our 2011 Highlander had play in it. It is a known issue and there is a TSB for it. My wife noticed the play and the popping noise so we took it in under warranty (certified used). I had to fight with them for three days because they kept saying "nothing was wrong" and they couldn't hear any noise. If my wife can hear it, your "certified" mechanics better be able to hear it. I warned them if I have to drive down there and make this fat ass mechanic sit next to me, I'll do it. All of a sudden twenty minutes later I get a call back saying, we think you have a bad steering immediate shaft...

I fricken printed out the TSB and put it on the seat before I dropped it off. I knew 100% that is what it was.

Then they called me back saying its fixed but the steering wheel isn't centered and I would have to pay to get it aligned. HAHAHAHH yeah no. It was straight when I dropped it off and it better be straight when I pick it up. I have more stories too but I'll digress...

Just replace the radiator yourself using Tim's video, it's stupid easy.

Instead of giving a dealership your hard earned money, try doing it yourself. Learn about working on your own rig and save yourself a bunch of money. Win-Win!

The Lexus dealer at the time charged me $900 with the water pump and all other belts as for the toyota dealer wanted $1400 then and that was couple of years ago.
