What Would You Buy ?

Wife keeps telling me I need to trade my 2006 Sport with 216K miles. Don't care for the current 4 Runner. Still trying to figure why they had to make it bigger when they already had the Sequoia ? Highlander now looks like a minivan . Rav 4 is too small. Closest thing I can find to mine is the Subaru Outback but kinda small. Any suggestions ?

why not find a clean low mileage 4th gen?? you could even consider keeping your '06 as a dedicated trail toy

I'm curious what her reasoning is for you "needing" to trade it in. This would probably steer my answer.... but since you asked... if my wife told me I needed to trade in my 4Runner (or any vehicle I really liked)

I would start dictating to her she "needs" to trade her car in.

Maybe, just maybe, the light bulb will go off to mind her own damn business.
If not, then maybe this is your wife's way of asking for a new car (if you get one, then she can justify getting a new one... women are weird dude and every relationship is different obviously but the car you drive and obviously like is none of your wife's damn business in my opinion. It doesn't affect her life one bit (assuming she has her own vehicle).

I would keep what you have if you like it. Let your wife complain about it... she'll get over it.

Are you having mechanical problems with your current rig? If it's still running well and not showing obvious signs of wear and tear, then why not keep it? It's most likely paid for, you like it, and I agree that the 5th generation is a step back.

I've only got 145,000 on my 2006 now and I plan on driving it for the long haul. Just my two cents.

IMO, the 2016 Tacoma looks pretty bad ass. The new motor looks good.

Just tell your wife to be more concerned about cooking dinner and washing the dishes.

Its the least she should worry about unless she is embarrassed about being in a old 4runner.

it has been 4yrs since i got mine, but i got a steal on an '03 sport...i was combing the autotrader early every morning lol...but im guessing you can still hunt down a good deal...any chance you could keep your current one too?? thats the best of both worlds and keeps mileage and wear and tear down on both

Just tell her you will trade when you find the right vehicle. lol Dont get in a hurry to get a car payment. If your price point keeps you in 4th gens, so be it. I'm sure yours will run several more years till "right one" (wink wink) comes along. To your question, I like the later 4th gens because of the head gasket upgrade.
