What would you do with $1,500

Let me start by saying I love this website, my husband also a 4runner owner/lover thinks its funny Im on here all the time. I keep telling him he could learn so much but he doesnt want to hear it until he's impressed with the mod I did :whip:

So heres the thing, after being hit almost 2 months ago Im getting a check for $1,000 and I have $500 saved. I feel like its a decent amount of money and I could do quite a few things with it. I have narrowed it down to three things I DO want, I just want to hear some ideas and opinions!!

1. Sliders
2. Kenwood (dont remember the model #) thinking of trying to install myself
3. Interior LED's (once I figure out which ones to get)

I havent done a lot so far in this journey but heres what I have done...Weathertech cargo liner, rain guards on the windows, matching tint on the front doors, Viper alarm system, Yakamia load warrior, some plasti dip, dash cam, fog light mod, xm radio, K&N drop in. I think thats about it.

I would love to figure out how to install a rear camera that records nonstop like the front dash cam, since I have been hit twice in the past year .......So ANY ideas on what I should do!!!!

What about a lift? I would install lift before putting sliders on. My reasoning is once you lift you you can go on many many trails without much worrying about hitting your rocker panels. I took a 2,000 mile road trip from Southern California to Moab Utah, Canyonlands, etc. I did not scrape a single rock over there. I went on a couple "difficult" rated trails too. Of course I was very careful and had a buddy that is a excellent spotter spot me.

If you put on sliders before a lift, than you still cannot go on many trails since the front end of the 4runner is soo low.

I'm replacing my headunit this week with a Pioneer Unit.

Interior LEDs can be had at MUCH less than $1500.

I got my set on Ebay for around $20 shipped for 10 lights (2 visor lights up front, 1 cabin light in center, 1 cargo light in rear, 2 map lights up front, 4 door lights)

They have different colors too, red, blue, white, yellow, etc.

And +1 on lift. thats the best way to spend 1500, but you'll realize itll go up to much more expensive once you account for new tires, and other suspension parts needed to get back to stock alignment specs

I got my first OME lift on here for $500, installed it myself, got a $120 lifetime alignment that got it perfectly in spec and rolled with stock tires for a while. I'm still only on 265/70/17s. That + sliders + leds would still be less than the $1500 available!

And my brother just picked up some brand new 265/75/16 Cooper AT3s for $500 installed (DiscountTireDirect). With some patience, you could get a lift, tires, alignment, sliders, and an led interior (with [MENTION=84223]JustSomeName[/MENTION] 's suggestion) for the $1500.

I wish I had $1500 to spend on my rig.... maybe I just need to figure out how to get rear ended.... :-/

not sure which model kenwood you're wanting kind of hinders my advise but pending where you purchase you can have all three of those items for 1500..

all thats only $580-$600 so you still have 900 bucks to put into a stereo with navigation or a back up cam with video feed to a USB you'd have to research that a bit as I'm unfamiliar with that sort of stuff but I pretty sure all the camera needs is a power source and something to record the feed. I would imagine you could have it setup for dual purpose back up cam when in reverse/ rear mounted cam for driving security purposes.

I wish this would have never happened...the place I took it to have the back repaired didnt match the paint worth sh%$ so now I have a back door that doesnt match

The ken wood didnt have navi, I cant pay an extra $400 just for navi, the map on my phone works just fine.

I have wanted a lift since I bought her last year.....I just have no idea where to start, I have seen pics on here of some badass lifts but have no clue when they tell me what they used. I dont do major off roading more light stuff, I prefer not to have anymore scratches than whats already there.
To top it off I have no clue how to install one so I would have to take it somewhere to have it installed and Im sure thats a pretty penny.

a lift, especially if you pay to have it installed will eat up that $1500 in no time.

im sure that it CAN be done, but you would likely have to piece it together yourself to get the best deals.

but, as said above, a lift and stock tires?
you would end up spending money on tires aswell.
it all adds up fast.

For once I agree with you. $1,500 would almost pay off a certain credit card that I'm trying to make disappear right now. And the thing about paying off debt is that not only does it save you money long term on interest, but it also saves you short term by knocking out a monthly payment.

[MENTION=95076]piccrazy30[/MENTION] forgive me for not knowing 4th gen parts prices, but couldn't you get sliders, the headunit and the interior LEDs for ~1500 or less? Why not just get it all

Personally, I'd get a set of nice AT tires if you don't have a set on already and spend the rest on updating your head unit and interior lighting.

No credit card debit, a few old medical bills for our lovely children but monthly payments look better on your credit than a payoff. No more credit cards for me
