What would you replace at 200k?

My 05 v8 4x4 limited is at 200k and other than some cosmetics she is doing pretty good. I think I'm going to go for another 100k and then re-assess. I know that may seem weird but in my family we always drove the wheels off of vehicles. We had a volvo 960 that we did 460k before a neighbor needed some cheap wheels, a lexus ls 400 with over 300k when a family friend lost a job and we gave it to them and many more. Last time I saw my parents I did the 3rd T belt on my dads ls430.


Anyway on my 4runner I am currently replacing the T-belt (and all associated pulleys, tensioner and water pump) replacing xreas with shocks and struts, upper and lower ball joints, upper and lower control arm bushings, sway bar links, and both parts of the tie rod. Also planning to change the Tranny fluid. The radiator will also be replaced since at this age the plastic is brittle.

In the past year I have replaced the alternator and evaporator core and put some new michelin ltx at2's on it.

What else would you replace? And please don't be afraid to point out the obvious, we have a 3 week old little girl at home so odds are I probably forgot it.

Thanks planning on doing that as well. I've done all but the front as when I did it I realized that the dealer that the previous owner took it to sucked and screwed up the plug. I have ordered a new plug and when I get that I will go to war with the plug.

I'm against replacing anything that's still working fine but if that's the way you do things I won't argue. I'm only at 185K but the only non-failing part I'd replace is the timing belt at 200K. Water pump stays for me if it's not leaking but that's just me.

Congrats on having the Xreas last to 200K, that's uncommon.

My 07 4.0 Xreas is doing great at almost 200k also,..just did new EBC front rotors and pads though otherwise ive replaced nothing except for fluid changes, plugs, filters, etc. dealer told me the water pump was leaking so i bought a new one, 100k miles ago, never installed it though as i didnt see any leaks...

Yeah.. Im not a fan of replacing non functional parts either.. Radiator, and waterpump, I understand.

Other wear items wont damage your engine or expensive parts.

I was thinking more along the lines of rubber items or things with a specific service life. If I replace something in my driveway its a lot cheaper than having it fail hundreds of miles from home on a weekend with limited parts availability. Both the evaporator and alternator were replaced at failure, why anyone would bust their butt on the evap if it isn't bad I don't know.

I agree, any rubber stuff that you have not replaced yet, do it already. an example are the following. rubber brake lines, radiator hose. if those fail when you are on a long trip, it will cost you more to fix and besides that since you will have to take it to a repair shop and also the inconvenience of delay.

Serpentine belt? Rear hatch external switch/rubber? Trans cooler lines to the radiator can also rust out. Battery if original?

I'd check the trans cooler lines esp if you're gunna do the radiator. Also just do your usual rust inspection of the fuel lines. I dunno where you are but my exhaust fell off this winter. Damn salt.
