What year body parts Interchange W/98

Ok Everyone I own a 98 4runner 2wd 4cyl that my son has wrecked and did sever damage to the front.....I am looking for a another wrecked 4runner.....so that my friend at the body shop can put my very loved family member back together....LOL

I have found a couple of 97's but not sure what the year model range is that will fit my car.

I love my car and want it back on the road. Can anyone tell me the year breaks where the body style change so that I can find another car to fix mine?

Generally the 3rd gen compatability is from '96-'00;even tho' '01 and '02s are stil 3rd gens they're were some changes that will make some parts not work together.

Bummer on the crash. I agree, the '96-00 body panels fit your 4Runner. Just be careful when buying parts, not to get confused with the Limited stuff....did that myself. The Limited fenders are different, they have holes in them for the fender flares. Also the bumper bars have holes for the flares.
Did it get into your lights? If so, you can upgrade to the new style ones from 1999-up. They look a lot better and are bolt on replacements. Check these out on Ebay to get a feel for pricing.

as for the differences between 96-00's and 01s and 02's, for example, the front bumpers are completely different but headlights are a direct swap. the taillights are slightly different and require modification to fit.

Hello all. Could anyone help this girl out with a compatibility issue? I have a 2002 4Runner with a damaged rear hatch. I found one of exact same color on ebay but it's off a 2000 year 4runner. They look the same to me but according to the fitment info from the ebay listing it isn't supposed to fit...yet other forums have indicated it would.

So confused. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thx in advance for your time.

Make sure it has the same options as far as rear defrost and rear wiper goes. The 2002 came with a chrome trim while 2000 came with gray. The only possible difference would be in the wire harness, I installed a 99 hatch onto a 96 where there are actual physical differences though and was able to plug it right in and everything works as it should.

I'm curious as to if i can use the fender flares from an older model to my 01 sr5. I'd like to use the smaller flares, and im curious if the mounting holes for the clips are in the same locations
