What's been your favorite road trip?

I've had my 4runner for about a year now and I think it deserves to see some good roads now. I haven't decided exactly where I want to go but I'm coming from Los Angeles. Right now I'm thinking about going to Big Sur, or maybe just taking PCH and see where I end up.

Anyway, I was thinking I'd love to hear stories about where you've taking your 4runner and possibly see some pictures of your 4runner and some great sites!

I've been a big fan of Baja since I was very young. My dad would drive us down in his FJ60 since I was born.

If you've got 2 weeks I'd drive down to Cabo. There's a lot to see. Mexico is not as dangerous as the media portrays it. Lots of offroading, empty beaches with warm water (south of G. Negro), good waves (if your a surfer not a surprise), tasty food and awesome people.

If your thinking of heading north, I'd personally drive up to N. Cal, and the Lost Coast.

If you never seen Big Sur Highway 1 is worth seeing. Some of my best road trips have been with no planned stops along the way. But if you want to stay in Big Sur make a reservation and get gas before or after you leave. That place isn't cheap. Also a must is take the Old Post Road to get a good picture of the Bixby Creek Bridge. I don't have any pictures atm but I found this link that may be enough to get you excited about the drive.

Later on this week going from Phoenix, AZ to Yakima, WA though Salt Lake City. After two full days of travel will spend three nights in Yakima. Then we have Five days to make it down the Oregon/ North California Coast to San Fransisco for a weekend stay. Any tips or places we must stay/see along the coast to make this our best road trip? We have no reservations for camping/hotel. Hoping to find spots but I know its the busy season. After our two night stay in SF we have a grueling drive back in Phoenix, 12 Hrs on day!

When you get to Oregon, hit up the 101 south. It will take you longer to get to SF, but it will be SO worth it.

There is some great scenery up here in Minnesota.

I plan on taking my 4Runner around Lake Superior pretty soon. Minnesota's North Shore is a gorgeous drive. The north side of the lake in Canada is just as beautiful, and the Macinac Bridge is something everyone should drive across at some point.

my favorite roadtrip...i have alot of them, every year i like to do at least a 1-2k trip somewhere, but the best for obvious reasons has to be the one me and my wife did .

it was a 4~4.5k loop from seattle out to yellowstone via Montana down to az across to LV then up through Yosemite and out to the coast and up the 101~hiway 1 route, hitting up every national and state park along the way went through moab,glacier,snake river,zion,joshua tree and i don''t know where else all... we just meandered for a couple of weeks, the highlight of the trip was AZ though where we got married in Paradise valley at a very swanky hotel/resort by a lady i found on the internet and her neighbors as witnesses, in the court yard by a fountain outside of our room, lol, stayed there for another day or so then got back on the road and continued heading west (at that point).....also we never paid for camping the whole entire way , using google earth we managed to find logging trials and abandoned hiways to camp on the whole way, found an awesome camp site behind a safeway in Yosemite and this really creep abandoned mining village in utah , we made it a point to stay off the interstates roads and keep to the hiways and biways routing through whatever park happened to be on the way.

so yeah best road trip ever, 4k or so..... so many national/state parks i can't count, 2 weeks on the road and got married to the love of my life, so yeah that has to take the cake in my life.

That is the plan. Newport or Florance to Eureka over four days via 101. Then staying in SF for two nights.

Glad you enjoyed AZ theizzardking and nice pictures. I wish we had two weeks. We have only 11 days of travel. Three of these are 12 hr driving days.

That is an amazing national park izzardking!
I want to take my girlfriend to Yellowstone or something. I haven't really had the true "national park" experience yet in my life, as well as my 4runner. I do winter ski trips with my girlfriend and those are really fun. Driving up a mountain for an hour with my lady next to me in my 4runner, I wouldn't change those times for an indefinite supply of money.
