What's everyone getting milage wise??

Forgive me if this is already posted somewhere else but I did a search and couldn't find anything specific to the third gen.

So, I'm curious as to what everyone is getting out of their 4runners. I'm getting on average out of mine which has the 3.4L auto, and 4X4 (it's an SR5 if that makes a difference) is getting on average 9 liters per 103 kilometers. So, that in MPG is...... 64 miles to 2.37 US gallons........ That's 27 MPG approximately.

What is everyone else getting? Keep in mind this is my average, not my best tank. And for most of what I drive it's half city and half highway.

Edit: sorry, my truck is a 2000 and has 221,000 kilometers, 137,000 miles, and stock.

i think you did your math wrong, ive heard of guys getting 22mpg and thats like super good, but 27mpg...? i only see like 16-17 on average if i take it easy and do a 60/40 mix hwy/city if its all city im around 13.

I think there was a post somewhere else about this too. But anyways, i'm at about 17mpg with a mixture of city and highway driving. I'm also supercharged, lifted, some armor (heavy front bumper/winch and sliders), and I have 33" (285/70/17) tires too.
 
I second the recalc on your mileage. I have a '99 Limited 4WD with 108k on it and I average 17.5mpg with mixed driving and ISR and deckplate mods already done. I just installed the Toytec Ultimate and 285's so I'll see how much it changes my mpg's.

64 miles to 3.03 US gallons. 21.1 MPG.

thats very good mileage, if i was you i would not complain at all, your rig is one of the better ones for mileage!
 
To me it seems low for a light import SUV. I'm not getting a whole lot better millage then my uncles 2005 fully loaded F150. I guess that's standard for the 3.4 though from the look of it.

your comparing a 6 year old truck to an 11 year old truck, whats the actual mileage difference? the technology for our 4runners was from 1995 thats over 15 years ago... both trucks weigh the same but the ford has a bigger motor, so it wont have to work as hard to do the same amount of work. so of course its gonna get better mileage. your still getting good mileage for a 4runner.
 
It's about a 4-5 mpg difference between the F150 and the runner, I'm getting the better millage though. I would have thought that the 4runner would be significantly lighter then the ford. I guess it's not as bad as I thought it was, I Duno I guess I've just come to expect miracles out of Toyota's.
 
the runner weighs about 4250-4300lbs, they are not light trucks, its still box body on a ladder frame set up. surprisingly heavy but well built.
 
lately ive been using grocery store (smiths) gas and getting killer mileage. mixed city and majority slow hwy with somewhat of a heavy foot. today i filled up 13 gallons at 280 miles (i wasn't empty im just paranoid how high gas is gonna still get

I've got a '98 Limited 4x4, full body rustproofing which added some weight along with 20" rims and Supercharger. On average I get about 18 on the highway...don't check it during around town driving.

I did squeaze 20mpg out of it on a trip to Florida during a tank of fuel one time :)

Not a daily driver, so fuel mileage doesn't really matter to me.
 
I got 26.5 once... I still have no idea how though. It was about 100 miles of ~70mph highway driving before I topped it off again. I double checked the amount I put in and I checked the distance against the GPS and then against Google Maps when I got home... Everything double checked.

Still don't get it.

you probably had a good tail wind... seriously. i was driving my old 85 4x4 toyota pickup out to walla walla wa one time and got 32mpg with it, now its a 22re with a 20r cam in it and a K&N filter and 2.5 exhaust, thats all that ive done to it, its still a solid axle truck with a 4" lift and running 33" procomp MTs i know i had a tail wind cause i was easily able to accelerate from 60-80mph in fifth gear(stock 4:10 gears). i filled up in hood river and then again in touchet. i dont remember the exact amount of fuel i put in but when i did the math it kept telling me ~32 so i had my friend do the math thinking i was dumb and he got the same thing. there is now way that truck will ever get that mileage i will bet you had a good tail wind and or it was all down hill.
 
ive heard that if you lock the gas pump trigger in the half position it a allows more gas to get in your tank rather than more fumes. Not sure if this is legit and i keep forgetting to try it when i pump up. It takes longer but maybe give that a try?

Crap.....so the D on the shift indicator DOES light up! Burned out bulb on mine

And I've been averaging about 18.2 MPG, with a mix of city and freeway.
