What's everyone using for storage boxes in their T4R?

Got a couple plano sportsman trunks for this. Seems to be of good quality so far. Plus it gives me a place to put all these stickers I have been accumulating.

While I really like the great work a lot of you are doing with the built-ins, I need a more portable solution due to having to haul all kinds of crap from time to time. Like today, I hauled 150 pavers and about 5 bags of base gravel. Someone else in this thread or another put me onto these Home Depot Ridgid containers. They are very well made, sealed, and mostly square in shape. I use one closed container for tow strap, jumper cables, tie-downs, and a few tools. The basket holds growlers, cleaning stuff, dog stuff, etc. Putting them side to side fits perfectly between the wheel wells. They are low enough to slide under the cargo cover. Then I can put the Tundra 45 on one side which leaves enough room for fly-fishing gear, groceries or whatever.

I pulled the trigger on the Ridgid containers this weekend. Grabbed the same chest as you have on the left, with the small container to go on top of it to hold more commonly used items. As you said, they are very sturdy and well-made, and stack and latch together perfectly.

My TE has the slide out tray which I hated at first since gear in the back would fall down in the tracks when you slid the tray out and you couldn't close it. I almost tore it out and went with Front-Runner or ARB drawers.

Ultimately, I decided to save some $$ and build a box on the stock slide out and a platform over it. It's definitely not the most elegant thing but it's functional for storage and organization.

I also built a 2nd platform the same height that I can add if the back seats are down and it makes a nice sleeping platform.

How close is this to your back seats? Did you make them still able to recline or did you make this flush with the back of them?

I keep an open crate in the back all the time. They have handles that flip up so you can run a bungee through it. They also stack and interlock with the boxes so you can pack them verticle. Leaves me plenty of room with 4 boxes stacked and packed sideways sitting by my ARB50.

Those look awesome. Where did you get those stacking crates. Right now I'm using those Costco boxes, the black ones with the yellow lids ($8 each) and they are awesome.

Does your sportsman box have a hinged lid? Amazon shows it off but sitting on top at an angle like its not connected.

Folding Crates

I also carry around a couple of crates, but ones that fold. I don't hold much in the back. Basic car stuff that I carry fit in the 2 bicycle pannier bags that I have hooked to the infant car seat latch behind the rear seats. I picked these crates because they fit under the cargo cover when stacked.

I use to use those foldable crates but they rattle way to much when not in use.

now I use a ........ post office mail crate. Big enough for stuff, light enough to carry, and don't make any rattling noise.

For tools, I use a husky tool bag, and a tool rollup bag, and first aid/tire repair kit in rigid boxes.

I can't stand rattling.

How close is this to your back seats? Did you make them still able to recline or did you make this flush with the back of them?

It' almost flush with the back of the seats and it does prevent them from locking into the "reclined" position. My kids are still small and don't know the difference.

Size? Do you have the model number? That looks like a good size with good latches.

Do you mind sharing some photos of what you store in the side compartment there where that rolled up moving blanket is... I've always wondered what people are putting there since I use to have a closed door compartment there in my 3rd gen.

These are for my 4th gen, but I ended up buying two stacking/latching Ridgid boxes to make a sort of cheap, self contained kitchen that sits right behind my cooler in the trunk for trips. Bottom is a latching box that contains all of my items that don't need to be refrigerated, like bread, freeze dried meals, spices, coffee, granola, etc etc. Top is an open crate that fits all of my kitchen materials including my stove, all my pots and pans, french press, mugs, etc etc. Its a bit heavy for sure, but I'm young so I don't really care haha. Makes it easy enough to get the entire "kitchen" out of the car all at once without having to root around and grab a bunch of crap.

I don't like rattling also, but these are built with thicker plastic and when folded, they "lock". Not like the Costco / Staples folding crates. Thin plastic, loose hinges, etc. Mind you I haven't gone offroading with them. hehe

I honestly don't notice little things until I got assigned parking on top of a 5 story parking garage full of speed bumps.....

After that happened, I had to look at other ways to store stuff.....tell me about it...I got 1st world problems....lol

Home depot ridgid box attached with turnbuckles with tools for work and tow strap/d rings/ random tools. I really like the size of this case and they are modular if you want multiple layers/sizes on both sides.

Soft amazon case is there during the week and has small wireless printer and work stuff. Printer is cool for anyone in construction or printing from their car.

Hi lift is currently switching from u bolt clamps to quick fist until I find larger wing nuts to remove it with gloves on

Had a new baby so when things settle down I have a plan for a MOLLE style set up with a frame made of conduit... we will see
