What's going on here?

I was under my 4Runner, taking the running boards off (finally! more on that in my build thread) and I noticed that a part had popped off, leaving this part loose. I have no idea why it is like this, or how long it has been like that. I may have even just driven across the country on it!

See picture and what is this called? Is it safe for me to drive it to my mechanic (30 miles)?

The picture with the red square is on the passenger's side. The other photo shows the assembly like it should be on the driver's side...

Broken sway bar end link. It's fine to drive it like that, It just won't handle as good.

Is that expensive to fix? ohh, so that's what the sway bar is, I know people take that off sometimes... Should I go to the dealer to get this fixed? Will they have the part on hand?

Inexpensive and easy fix. I think I paid $35 for both sides from Riebes/Napa.

If the threads are still good just buy a big washer and the correct nut. Also snag some bushings

Super easy to fix. One of mine rusted off not too long ago. 25 a piece at autozone. Do both sides while you are at it. Takes 30 minutes tops to replace.

Found mine like that when I went to put the lift on the truck! I think the sway bar links are like $35 each at NAPA. Not very expensive, and easy to replace!

Of course, after taking off the running boards and noticing the broken end link, I just HAD to go wheeling... So I went! Was wet but awesome!!

This thing can do anything! (well...almost!)

If you plan to wheel it, you'd be better off getting quick disconnect end links.
1.) better wheeling without them connected.
2.) they tend to break when wheeling if connected.

Contact forum member Stick Figure. He builds them, pretty trick.

Those won't fix your problem, they're just upgraded bushings for the sway bars and end links. They won't replace your broken part.

That's what I thought, that they were upgraded bushings... Thanks for the clarification. Will look into Stick Figure's quick disconnects. Thanks man!

Yes definitely change both while your at it. Did mine about a year ago. Not expensive at all.

Ya I forgot to mention that. Obviously you will need the missing end link parts. The bushings I referenced will probably improve your on-road ride quality a bit, depending on how bad yours are. Theyre pretty simple to install. I would say just order them if you need them, then once you get them we can help you install them

No reason to upgrade them. You can but its costly. Buy some cheap stock ones. When you hit the trail just take some tools so you can quickly disconnect one side and you will free up flex and it wont break.

I dont see the reason to buy disconnects when the stock ones are easy to disconnect. LOL.
