What's needed for 31 or 32" tires?

Rolled my 2000 4Runner (boo!) and just got a 2008 4Runner (yeah!) which I want to get a bit more off-road worthy. I've read a ton of posts on here and thought I had what I wanted all figured out... I called my local Toyota dealer to talk shop. He said even with a small lift (I'm thinking the Cornfed 2" and 1") I wouldn't be able to put 31" or 32" tires on. Is he right? Anyone do this?

Don't want it lifted much, can't spend a whole lot... thought I had my rig figured out.

I had a cornfed 2/1 spacer lift for years. I had the BFG m/t 255/75/17 (32") with slight rubbing in reverse. Added wheel spacers and moved the front fender forward half an inch and my problem was gone.

Moving the fender is easy. Unbolt the two screws in the bottom, push the fender towards the front of the car and re-bolt/make new holes.

The 4th Gen Suspension Options/FAQ sticky (at the top of the 4th gen section) has a section telling you what tires fit on which lift with what modifications are needed, as well as a bunch of other info. Many here have your setup (or similar), so you won't be in uncharted waters.

What tires are you thinking of getting?

Thanks all for getting back to me. Saw that Suspension Sticky, which is what I based my concept on... so thought I had it figured out. The guys at the Toyota dealer do plenty of lifts, so I feel like they know what they're talking about as well...

To keep costs down I was thinking about holding onto my stock wheels and getting some 265/70/17's.I was thinking Wrangler SilentArmor or some BFG A/T's of some kind, which I had before. I'd like to get a 32" tire on there, but it seems like that might be pushing it regarding space, and I'd have to get new wheels (I think).

Well the factory tires are basically 31.5~31.6" tall, so 31's will fit fine.

32"s will also fit without a lift, but a mild lift makes sure there's no chance of rubbing.

No problem, if you plug in your tire size into a tire calculator you'll see what the actual height is. A 265/70R17 (Sport Edition Tire/Wheel) is 31.6" tall, so 32's should be fine. It's when you get into the 33's or taller tires that clearance become and issue, also going wider than 265~275.

i had my 255/70/18's installed before my lift and after moving the fender liner they fit with no problems. i was able to drive home without doing anything to the truck from stock but it will rub the fender liner if not moved up

My 2006 Sport has 265/70/17's (31.6", as noted above) on bone stock suspension and they don't rub at all. The door panel calls for 265/65/17's, but even the spare is a 265/70 and the previous owner never drove offroad, so I'm not sure what the tire history was.

Mine has 275/70/17s with spider Trax and a 3/2 cornfed lift. Mild rubbing on just the bumper and mud flaps

Just get 265/70R17 it’s a very popular size. 31.6”x10.8”.

Carried almost everywhere. It’ll be an E load rating tire.
