What's parts from a 2nd gen would make a 1st gen better?

I've got a 1990 frame, axle, front diff, steering, trans. and transfer case. What would be good to keep for future mods? Steering gear and rear axle for sure. I'm sure the trans and transfer case are different than what I've got in my 85. I've also got an frame from like a 83 2wd. Engine and 5speed are about all I plan on keeping from this.


Also will sawzaws cut these frames fairly easily? I need to get some stuff cleaned up around here.

You neglected to tell us what engines and transmissions all these have, and what you might want to do.

It doesn't sound like you have them, but in case others are curious I put 2nd gen seats in mine and they are much better.

My 1st is a 22re and auto. My 2wd frame is a 22r 5speed and my 2nd gen from has the auto trans. I sold the 3.o from that.

I would keep all the IFS steering gear box's. If you ever so high steer you will want it.

Seats have already been swapped over. I planned on the gear box and also the hubs. Obviously the rear axle as well.

gonna need a lot of work to get that 2nd gen rear housing to mount in your 1st gen 4runner. coil spring buckets, link mounts etc to remove..the third (as long as the gears match the front ratio is a direct swap)
