What's the "Anti-Theft System" (in addition to immobilizer?)

I get that the SR5 has the key recognizing immobilizer, but what is the "Anti Theft System" that only the Trail and Limited get?

Is this a more traditional "alarm" that guards against break-in rather than theft? Is there a flashing light, shock sensor and a siren if a door is opened when the system is armed, etc.?

There is a flashing light.

Sales man said shock sensor and glass break sensor but ive never seen or triggered mine. It was a huge pain when changing the battery.

Maybe it's different in US but my SR5 will sound off and flashing lights if any door is opened without keyfob or a key. When I just got the truck and was sitting inside studying controls I unlocked doors with keyfob, The doors of course locked back on in a few minutes because I didn't touch the doors and when finally I opened door (from inside) to exit vehicle the horn went off similar to what happens when panic button is pressed. Actually it's described better in the manual if you're interested how it works. Don't think I had any glass breaking sensor though , at least it's not in the manual.

Thanks. If the US-spec SR5 units have this same functionality, I'm not sure what else the high trim "Anti-Theft" system adds? Just a flashing light?

For the price we are charged I don't see why the SR5's don't come with an alarm system standard. If its a cost cutting measure I'd trade my super brake assist or stability control for it in a heartbeat. Interesting Canadian models have it, but they pay more overall anyway.
I asked my Toyota parts guy how much it would cost for parts only and he said he couldn't find it anywhere in his catalog. Then I asked the service manager about how they deal with it if someone orders one and he said they send it out to a third party shop. I just decided to stick with the key immobilizer thingie. It looks like its alarmed to any would be thief anyway with the red light on the console always flashing when it's locked.

My TE does this. I slept in the 4runner with the doors locked (via key fob) while camping. In the morning I manually unlocked and opened the back door and to my hungover horror, the horn started blaring. I fell out and went :repuke:

The only way the factory alarm will sense shock and glass breakage is if the thief unlocks and/or opens the door after smashing the glass, lol. Don't you love how salesmen can make up BS on the fly

I think the only thing that the factory alarm has are door, tailgate and hood triggers along with a sensor that detects if you flip the lock lever to unlock on the inside door handles.

This is true to some extent, but IMO security is all about layers and trying to deter a theft from happenng; obviously, if they want it bad enough they will get it.

But let's just say you have a small time crook walk by and see two identical cars sitting on the lot with a GPS attached to their windshields, one car has an alarm and one doesn't, which one do you think they will go for?

Don't get me wrong, I don't mean that having an alarm means you can leave all your valuables laying out, but extra layers are certainly not going to hurt anything if you ask me

I know the "Premium Security System" adds the shock-sensor and glass break detection (glass break likely shares the shock sensor - but might have an additional microphone?). Tugging on the door handle hard enough will also trigger the alarm. I didn't want to fuss with installing my own alarm (already had a huge audio install to deal with!), nor did I want a separate key fob for an aftermarket alarm - so I opted for the "Premium" Toyota system...

I was not aware the "base" immobilizer/alarm also sounds the alarm (horn) if you open the door when the doors are locked? Thought it was just the ignition immobilizer?

It is. My SR5 has no alarm, but has an immobilizer. If that's what you mean by "base."

That "Premium Security System" your describing is dealer or port installed as it's not a factory option installed in Japan. It's just an aftermarket install that the dealer makes extra money on and they usually farm it out locally.

The alarm system on LE's and TE's is from the factory however and as stated does not have glass breakage or shock sensor alarms.

If its anything like the "Premium Security Package" that came with the 4Runners, it includes a shock sensor and a glass break sensor and that's about really it to be honest...

The box is mostly plug and play and includes a microphone to pick up the sound of glass breaking; testing method when installing was to tap the glass sharply with a key or something (not too sharply though or you break the window... loved how they said that on the paperwork LoL.)

I don't think it really does much else besides add the shock sensor and microphone? I mean what else does any alarm system do beside make noise, kill the car, and/or annoy the crap out of the thief?

I am stranded. 2010 SR5 will not turn over. There is only one electrical click, and then nothing. The Anti Theft system is enabled. I pulled the battery cable for 15min and was able to get home, but that trick no longer works. Battery is fine. I don't have Smart Key system and the key fob is the original. Cannot find any reset procedures and the dealership has been closed over the holidays. Please help.
