What's the best head unit?

A6 Pro to A6 10.1

let me know how you like it, i've been eyeballing them for a long long time but need real world reviews to make the $240 plunge. after it mainly for streaming google play music and maps

EDIT: this is the version i was looking into since it comes with the toyota harness already.

Tried replying yesterday, I guess it didn't post. I initially bought the same unit you are/were thinking about purchasing. Since I bought my 3rd Gen on the other side of the country, I packed the ATOTO A6 Pro in my suitcase, and right after I drove away from the seller's home, I spent an hour in the Autozone parking lot teaching myself car stereo installation. The A6 pro seems like good value for the money, but I don't personally think it's a good fit for the 3rd Gen. Because the angle the stereo sits at, and because it sits so low on the dash board, it's difficult to see the entire screen.

I ended up buying the 10.1 inch ATOTO while I was still on the road and installed it when I got back to Colorado:

As you can see, the A/C controls are covered up. They are still accessable by tilting the screen. I know not everyone wants/likes that, but I think it's worth the tradeoff, because the screen is easier to see and use, so I spend less time with my eyes off the road if I want to change the song or enter a new address. Plus I like the manual volume knob better than the cheapy volume buttons that were on the A6 Pro.

damn it haha I haven't installed it yet, but I was back and forth between the 10.1 screen! i wanted it for the tilt but didn't want it to look huge and cover everything as I do play with the temp in my car a lot when I take the baby in the mornings and when the family is in the car with me. I've been testing back up cameras, I bought 4 different ones and finally settled on one last night so I'll be installing everything tomorrow.

I ended up going with the a6 pro a6y2721PRB without the toyota harness because the physical buttons and the IPS display being much closer to the outer screen so there's not a bad parallax effect when looking at an angle. so far playing around with it on the table at home has been great. I'm also running head unit reloaded for android auto/apple car play and it's phenomenal, if you don't have it I highly recommend purchasing it. Can you post a photo of what the 10.1 looks like in your truck? I might exchange mine lol

dash cam I chose, actually has pretty decent video for a $20 cam. once installed I'll let you know how the e-dog and adas features are.

this is the back up cam i went with, either going to do a bumper mount or mount it in the back hatch. it does have a big rca plug on it so getting it through the grommet on the hatch would be a pita but we'll see.

Forgot about this thread, I'm running the pioneer X7800BT flip out up front. 2 competition 12's for the lows and 4 Rockford Fosgate T1 components for the doors. I love this deck because it allows me to fine tune the frequency and cutoff of each output. 12,000 watts RMS with no distortion.

I have a pioneer flip up sitting I’m my Amazon cart. It clears the cup holder area with normal fitment? I really want CarPlay but don’t want to have to look all the way down to the factory double din area. Do you have more pics on how it looks from the drivers seat? How do you like it?

The T1819 is the best OEM radio I ever listened too. It is extra work but worth it. It’s a 200w to 300w radio depending on what you read. Put premium speakers in the 4 doors

It Rocks, and if you get the Bluetooth microphone for 54 dollars or so you will not be disappointed. Stream music via Bluetooth, hands free calling.

I like so much I installed one in my Saturn SL. I spend 2 hours a day driving too or from work. in my Saturn every day. The price and connectivity is priceless.

I'm in a 00 limited so all thats behind it is my ac controls.

Thanks. It would block my a/c control too but that doesn’t bother me. As long as it fits without having to modify or trim anything I’ll be happy

You CAN run the RCA plug through the back grommet. It is a pita, but doable. The key is to trim off some excess plastic from the RCA end with an exacto knife, fish it through with a single strand of Romex wire, and liberally apply liquid dish soap before starting it through.

Much cleaner install, looks factory.

PS: Why haven't thy come up with a micro RCA plug yet! :lightsaber:

I know this thread has been leaning to double dinn but what about a nice single dinn....no extra speakers but maybe nicer in stock location...no other amp...am/fm/cd/ blue tooth
but seems most that I have looked at lately have an external microphone that needs to be run up to a pillar or someplace if want to use phone..
thought that was blue tooth was about...not having a microphone
my old super tuner came out of another car long ago...has worked fine...but has dropped a channel so time to replace.It had a external microphone...but that did not make the move to the 4runner. Im not so savy when it comes to new electronics....have to stay single din as either a cb or a ham is going into the lower slot

and not more than $150-175 ish

Even OEM headunits utilize a remote mic. Having a mic in the HU or using the phone's isn't an ideal location; try making a call while your phone is in the cupholder blocking the mic, they'll probably say they can't hear you clearly.

I'd browse Crutchfield and Sonic Electronix then compare prices on ebay and amazon. Crutchfield's usually the priciest, but they include the necessary dash kit (if needed), wiring, and vehicle-specific instructions on how to take the interior apart.
