Stereo Help for 07 With JBL, Thank You

I hope this is the right section and that someone can help me with this. I have a 2007 Limited with the JBL system that I want to add a head unit with Nav. I have an opportunity to pickup a NIB Pioneer AVIC-Z140BH . This head unit has all the features I want in a stereo but it is also a stereo that was first sold over 12 years ago. I know that if it will work that I will need special harnesses and modules to get everything to work together with the rest of the JBL system. I'm not interested in gutting the JBL speakers and amp and install all new components. Sites like Crutchfield is great about giving you this info but only for head units they currently sell. Can somebody tell me where I can go to determine what is required to complete this job. I would sure appreciate any help with this as after 4 hours of searching I am no closer to learning anything more than when I started, lol!!! Thank you in advance for your help and advice.

Well, one way, I don't know if it will work because I've never done it, would be the old school way of cutting off the connectors from the current head unit and splicing the wires onto the new unit. If you have the same JBL as my '04, that's 10 speakers to connect, an 'always on' power supply wire and a switched power supply. You'd need to get a wiring diagram to make it easier or you can open up the door panels and see what the wire colors are and match those to the new unit.

I'm assuming the new unit will fit in the space of the old unit, has connectors for 10 speakers and will support the sub woofer.

That's all I can offer.

Thanks for the reply. It's not just figuring out which wire is for which component in the system, these newer vehicles have steering wheel controls and other modules and things I will never understand. It's why I never want a vehicle newer than this 2007, at least I can still figure out what everything is under the and I don't need a computer degree to change the oil, lol!!!! I know from other JBL Toyotas that JBL doesn't want you adding other components to their audio system unless it is also made by them. I have read of nightmares on forums where folks thought they could buy any stereo that is the same size and everything is going to plug up and play nice with each other. 99% the result is either returning it to stock, or replacing the entire system with new completely eliminating the JBL components. I wish it was old school, old school I understand, this new school, I don't. Thanks again for the reply, much appreciated.

Well, yes, all the wires would have to match up if you want the same things you have now. The steering wheel controls wouldn't have to be there, though. I got a new radio for our 99 Sienna and the cable for the steering wheel was extra. I just put the radio in and then years later regretted not getting the cable. It was still available and I was able to add it on.

You got a radio that wasn't built for your model of 4Runner so you have to expect that you're probably not going to have all the things that an OEM radio would have. The JBL is a 10 speaker system, including the front center and sub woofer. This new radio would have L/R front and rear doors plus sub woofer. It may have the door tweeters and even the center speaker. I doubt it would have the C-pillar L/R.

If you got the NIB radio you should have the diagram of the wires and what each one is. You know the JBL has 10. So you would have to match the new radio wires where you can. Here's a wiring diagram from Crutchfield for one without the NAV, which is what you have in your 2007.

No doubt about it, this is going to be a project for you. Your other choices are to go to a radio installation shop and see if they can do it for you or to sell the NIB radio and buy one from Crutchfield that's designed for your 4Runner.

I found this harness on Amazon. It might be better than cutting off the one from the JBL radio

Thanks for the solid advice and especially for the wiring diagram. This is a huge help. It wouldn't bother me to loose that center dash speaker. I think what makes the most sense is to see what a local shop might charge me as they do this stuff everyday. Then check out Crutchfield and see what they have that would make for a far easier install. It seems having Navigation in the head unit isn't a big deal any more as everyone just runs off their phone. Thanks again for the replies and I hope y'all have a great day. NCH
