What's wrong with the search function?

I tried searching for a few old threads that I remember reading without any success in finding them.

So I tried a little experiment. I found an old thread on gas caps, found here:

Then I used the search function to find the thread. Since the title of the post is "Fuel Cap", I tried searching those words and came up empty. I read through the thread and noticed that many people used "gas cap" in thier posts, so I tried searching using those words and also came up empty.

Does the search function only go back a specific amount of time? Is it possible to find older posts using the search function?

That is really wierd! I just tried it at T120 and it'll pull threads all the way back to threads that lived and died in 2005. It may go back further, I searched the word Cornfed.

I am very happy you discovered this because I swore I was losing my mind on a few searches.:awais:

If you remember who posted within a specific thread and seach by user name that seems to search way back.

Well, I was looking for the thread with the guy who fabricated his own rear tire carrier. It was a detailed thread with lots of pictures.

I tried searching all kinds of words (rear tire carrier, spare tire, rear mounted carrier, tire carrier, etc...) but came up with nothing. I don't remember the guy's name, so I can't find it that way either...

Thanks... that's the tire carrier, but the thread I was trying to find had a bunch of pictures as he was fabricating it. Now that I know who it was, I'm sure I can find it.

I just wish the search function pulled it up for me...
