Hi, Im curiouse to see what kind of mpg people are getting out of there 3rd generation 4runners. Please state if you have any mods, especcially oversized tires.

Looking forward to resaults :)

my truck is strage, i only use cheveron, shell or texico and sometimes ill get 16 but than sometimes ill get 21+ driving styles are useually the same mostly highway well "rush hour" miles. ive got wider A/T tires just not oversized. all my mods are in my sig.

Wow that is strange.... The best mileage I ever got with my 4runner was just over 24 combined. If I drive like i dont care about gas mileage I usualy get 17-19 combined. and if I drive pedal to the medal ill get 14-16. It really depends on your right foot :) and if your driving highway or city.
 
:confused: I dont know what i get. I dont bother to calculate it cause i dont want to be depressed. I'd imagine its not very good with the bumpers and tires. The most miles i can get on a tank is around 240-250 and when it was stock i was getting over 300 miles on a tank.

If you run your tank down really really low befor you fill up you probually get 14 mpg but if you fill up and it takes about 15 gallons to fill your tank your getting 16-17 mpg
 
Right now I'm getting around 18-18.5 around town.

Last week I did about 65% city and 35% highway and got almost 21.

I haven't really tested all highway, but I would be happy with around 23.
 
I drove to Eugene and back two weeks ago and put on 226 miles, all hwy. Had a gas mileage of 21.

Around town I get between 17 to 18 and thats with 91 octane.

When my TPS was on the fritz it was 13 mpg in town. :mad:

Edited to add that my 98 has a 5 speed manual transmission.

Posting mods that directly affect mileage,2wd or 4wd,manual or auto tranny would also be helpful.

This subject is a bit beaten to death and in the many 3rd gen MPG polls it always seem to be 15-18 city/20-23hwy (4wd Runners) with a few extremes low and high in there.

I have slightly bigger tires and I'm a bit of a leadfoot from a start and I get 15-17 city and 20-23hwy. Highway miles make a big diff as long as I keep it under 75mph since keeping it over 80mph simply hurts MPGs.

thats prob what i do, i just dont realize it, I do lay on it sometimes and that rush hour sucks! stop and go, im sure is no beuno for the gas.

i use some injector cleaner every 6 minths or so too, it helps out i tnink

I have a 98 4cyl 2wd Auto, I keep the maint. upto date, and tires at proper inflation.

I make a trip once a week 225 miles each way, so I get a very good reading into MPGs

Oh yeh, I only run 87 octane

I fugured it was a 4cyl cause that would be crazy good mileage out of the 3.4l v6 haha.

A friend of mine gets 22mpg+ out of a 3.4 with 4wd.


It is all about driving style and maintenance
