good, bad?
im clueless when it comes to these things.

i want some basic A/T tires that work well on and off road. without paying over a grand for all of them.

They're a great tire for the price. They're a clone of the BFG A/T pretty much and seem to do really well. Believe it or not, General actually makes some decent tires. I had the UHP's on my old Jetta and loved them.

i have the bfgs on my runner and the generals on my sierra. the only difference was the price and general has a 50,000 warranty on them, BFG has none.

if general offered a size near my runners 18's i would have gotten them.

since no one has these in stock in my town, if i were to purchase these and have them delivered to my house, how easy is the install?

i have an air compressor, is it as easy as a bike tire? i.e. flatting it, remove the old, put on the new, n so forth?

the only thing would be the tpms?

and yes, its okay to call me a moron for asking such a ridiculous question if changing a tire is no where near what i am thinking.

First, can you change your picture, that scares me lol.

Order them online, receive them, place in your 4runner. Go down to the tire place pay roughly $100 to have them mounted and balanced. Your done.

You can mount the tire on the wheels yourself, but its not easy and you may scratch something, you will have to have them balanced anyway, so let someone else do the work.

Go to tirerack or 1010tires or discounttiredirect and get them online. Tirerack seems to have some good prices, fast shipping, and cheap shipping.

I have had them for a few months and they are great. I have had a chance to drive in anywhere from icy to 12" of snow and the traction is incredible. The only negative (not a big deal) is the noise as I had more of a summer tire previously and the whine of these is louder. This is to be expected, but wanted to point out you will have some additional noise, but then again they have 1/2" deep tread.

I am running 265/70/17 without a lift and I get some slight rubbing on the front mudflaps at full lock. I paid $145 each (SL) and mounted blackwall out.

I have had BFG all terrains and I cannot see spending the extra money when these are a virtual clone

I have about 6k miles on mine so far and have no complaints. They were only $129 each when I ordered from Tire Rack last year, but looks like they are $140 in my size now. I stuck with the lighter duty version and noticed very little, if any, extra noise. The 50k mile warranty is definitely a nice bonus.

I used one of the recommended Tire Rack installers, which happened to be an NTB in my area. They only charged like $15 per tire to mount and balance. I was shocked at the discount. They said had I not mentioned Tire Rack and presented the invoice that I wouldn't have paid so little.

I haven't done much off-roading with them yet... but that will change in May when I make the trek out to Cruise Moab!

awesome guys! thanks a ton. im awaiting my tax returns then this will be my big purchase of the year.

as for the noise im not worried, i always have my music at almost full blast and my window down. so i probably wont even notice.

and as for the rubbing, if i have left over cash im going for the spacers just to level it, should take care of that.

im also getting a 2nd job, specifically for mods i think. a few nights a week doing security work. should be awesomeeeee

whats the difference between 265/65 R17 and 265/70 R17?
i currently have the 265/65/ R17

which should i get? from what ive searched the 70 is wider?? i think? which would be alright with me, if it all fits dandily. or should i just stick with the same? and on some sites they only have the 70 in stock....

I too looked at these tires when it was time last December.

Tire Rack had some "not so great" reviews, mostly complaining about ride and noise. These were high on my list to avoid so I chose to spend a bit more and went with the Michelin LTX M/S 2's.

I am sure that for the price asked, they are more than decent tires, I am just NOT willing to put up with noise or a bad ride for 70K miles.

65 or 70 = height (as a ratio of the width)

So the 265/70 will be the same width, and 5% taller than the 265/65. You should be able to fit them just fine on a stock 4th gen, although you might have very minor rubbing up front without the leveling lift and/or pushing the liners forward (I haven't personally done this, but plan to put 265/70/17 on my stock height 4th gen and it looks simple to accomplish).

Caution: the 265/70 R17 GRABBER AT2 comes in 2 flavors.
-the 121/118Q Load range E with a 99 mph speed rating.
-the 115S with a 112 mph speed rating and "not rated for severe snow".

The 2 versions are quite different. The load range E will feel much stiffer and is an 80 PSI max cold pressure. The other one is only a 44 PSI max cold.

It's fairly tough to break the bead of the old tire yourself, then unmount it and reinstall the new one, but more importantly, I don't think you can balance the tires yourself. Balancing is a must.
