What's your take on best SUV ever made?

IMO these are my favorite SUV's ever made. The 3rd generation 4runner of course haha, the early 2000 Land Cruisers and the early 1990's Chevy Blazer. Which most people consider a truck, but I consider my 4runner and a Land Cruiser a truck. My number 1 pick is the Land Cruiser. If you don't agree with any of these post a reply and give me your opinion.

for shame i picked the 80's series as well, i would be driving one as well if gas prices were circa '89 at under a buck a gallon..no way can i afford to keep,mod and drive the iron pig.........

Yeah I agree. Very pricey to own. But someday when the prices on them die down I'll probably get one.

i'd have to agree, i talked my old man in to picking one up as a family heirloom over the summer got to drive it out in the desert in UT for the first time this Christmas, also got to got his new M&P15 while we were out!

The FJ80 model; 97' and earlier were IMO the best LandCruisers, and probably the best SUV.

Pretty modern styling, nice interior, coil sprung suspension front/rear, big solid axles, locking diffs front and rear from the factory...

What more could you want?

I am buying one for a dedicated trail rig before too long

that and just about everything on them is beefier, i also like the added room inside, much more space to mount gadgets and the rest, don't get me wrong, i'm currently driving the 2nd best suv on the planet (haha) but the LC is tops for everyday life in my book!

Id have to say my favorite SUV of all time is a 1949 dodge power wagon woody fire truck. my uncle has one with the drive train of a 2002 dodge Cummings (pretty much the 1949 body on a 2002 frame) i LOVE it and it will go anywhere you could even imagine. maybe the woody wasnt very practical but it sure looked cool!

I think what he's saying is the early 2000 LC's were NOT the 80 series, that would be 100 series, after they went to IFS. 80 series were made from '89-97 (in production up to 2008 in Venezuela).

My vote is for the 80 series LC's as well, but I might be a bit biased, lol.

Nope, sold here in North America from '91-97 only. Are you able to edit the poll?

They were ahead of their time, I can see how you could make the mistake, lol!

I had a '95 FZJ80, with front and rear locking diffs, ARB bullbar, OME suspension, and running 295/75R16 BFG AT/KO tires, as a company vehicle, from '95 to '00. It was a good vehicle. I bought my '97 4Runner in '97 as a personal vehicle. So I compared them daily.

I finally decided that the 4Runner was more comfortable for me, nearly as capable off-road, (with the manual trans and rear diff-lock) and got much better gas mileage.

I sold the FZJ80 with no regrets, and still have my old 4Runner, 15 1/2 years after buying it.

I guess that means I prefer the 3rd gen 4Runner.

The Blazer wouldn't be on my list, but I'm surprised to see the early 90's Blazer on the poll and not the K5's of the 80's, IMHO. Solid axles, easily modified, many still out there today for off road use, used by the military (though military doesn't always go for the best). Just one man's opinion.

I'm actually just going off of experience and not much of researching. Sounds like that is a better model Blazer

Jeep Wagoneer...considered the actual first true SUV...not just off-road vehicle. I've always wanted to restore one...especially the late 80s woody! These things are beasts, with 360s and solid axles. Its like driving a boat on the road.

My all time favorite is, and has always been, the 3rd gen 4Runners. Nothing beats that, they are solid.

I wouldn't mind having a Land Cruiser, like the 80 series, from 1991-1997... I consider the Land Cruiser to be a slightly superior option for off road/expeditions, only because of the solid axle and more space inside. Only way I would own one though would be if I could afford it, and only in addition to a 4Runner.

Though, a built Tacoma is killer as well. T4R's and Tacos are my favorite...
