Another source to consider for a hub assembly, however it uses a Dorman hub flange that I want to avoid:

Big question. Is the stock axle nut on the 4Runner 35mm or 36mm? I’ve seen both spec’d out in YouTube vids.

I also noticed both sizes mentioned on YouTube videos. I Googled "5th generation 4runner axle nut size" and found that some 3rd generation guys used the more commonly available 36mm socket even though the nut was 35 mm, and others claimed their axle nut was 36 mm.

Step-By-Step Replacement Of Front Axle Seal On Your 5th Gen 4Runner. has a photo that clearly shows a 35 mm Tekton impact socket on the axle nut. 5th Gen 2010-2018 Front Axle Seal DIY also has a photo the clearly shows a 35 mm Tekton impact socket on the axle nut.

It must be 35mm.

Perfect! Just what I was looking for. I’m probably going to try a 1/2” drive on my impact wrench first, oth, it would give me an excuse to get a 40” 3/4” breaker bar.

So the dealer tells you that you have a bad wheel bearing, but can't tell you which one - then how did they get to that conclusion? Something fishy there. I'd do the job myself or have an independent shop check out the problem. And, never go back to that dealer. I'm sorry sir, but you have a broken arm. We can't tell which one without you paying $150 to find out - good thing you're not a spider!

Well depth on a 3/4 inch drive 35mm Tekton standard socket is 1.03 inches. That may to be too shallow. Therefore I removed the sentence in my post that refers to a 3/4 inch drive socket.

A 1/2 inch drive 35 mm Tekton impact socket has a well depth of 1.33 inches.

Someone needs to measure minimum well depth to remove the axle nut.
