Wheel color, what would you do?

Over the holiday week I bought a used set of four SR5 wheels that are immaculate. I think they have roughly 13k miles on them, but the previous owner took really good care of them before upgrading to TRD wheels.

I'm still currently on the 20" wheels my 2011 Limited came with. When the time for new tires comes, I don't wanna buy 20" tires, hence the SR5's. I know they're a basic design, but I like them well enough, especially for the price I paid.

My 4Runner is magnetic grey and I was thinking of either black or bronze (near goldish) in color for the wheels, but given the condition, I'm almost tempted to leave the wheels unpainted. But that's kinda' boring, isn't it?

I was thinking of powder coating, since the wheels are naked right now.

What would you do?

Just leave them as they are. Less work, and you don't have to worry about the new paint/finish coming off.

^^My vote also. I think the change from 20" wheels and tires will be a significant enough change with the wheels as they are.

I would get a quote for powder coating, and then say "that's too much for meh wheels."

In fact, that's what I did. I saw RRW wheels on sale and got them instead.

If you like them, have a paint shop paint them with the toughest paint they have, or buy some duracoat and shoot them yourself. It will be cheaper than PC.

Factory alloy wheel finish is silver paint, if you didn't already know that.

Ya I'm partial to powder-coating, in Vegas 75$ a wheel for 17" & if you do go satin much easier to clean & keep clean !

This what I would do. Leave them stock and save yourself the hassle and $$. Aftermarket finishes typically dont hold up as well as the ones that come from the factory.
Black wheels and rims look like bad, always, so I wouldn’t even consider this.

Call a couple powder coating shops and get a few quotes.
I was surprised how cheap Powder Coating can actually be. I had 3 Shrockworks skid plates sandblasted and powder coated Hammer Tone Black for a total of...


$60!!!

Depends on the color of the vehicle. The bronze wheels look great-but they have to work with the other colors of your ride.

My new truck is silver with a whole bunch of black stuff (roof rack, tube steps, spoiler, door handles). Bronze wheels would look terrible. On a green truck without all the black-bronze would be awesome.

You can never go wrong with black.

Also not sure why in the heck you'd go down to a 17" from the stock 20" on the LTD. Yeah, the tires cost more. So what? It's a couple hundred $ every 3-4 years. I'd put dedicated snows on the 17" wheels if it were me.
