Wheel Grease Leak?? What's the Problem

So on my day off I decided just to do a little inspection on my truck, well i got out the crawler and wheeled under there and to my surprise I find a problem. This is on the drivers front wheel, I found a ton of grease, and on the other wheels Zero. Being a novice, I have no clue what it is, I have an appointment with service on Monday but what to make sure I am ok to drive it for a couple days. This could have happened up to 2 months ago, but without an sign of problems I have never looked under there for a couple of months. I do have FJ Springs and shocks and a 1/2" Toytec leveling kit on.

Looks like your CV boot is cracked and throwing grease. Could you find any rips in that boot?

Yep your CV boot is leaking (the rubber axle boot seal is probably loose). They will probably ask you to replace it, but if you search fixes on the board you will find that you can repair this yourself for very little cost (if the boot is not torn). If the boot is torn a replacement boot is needed and is a bit more involved but both can be DIY.

You should be find to use the truck but it will continue to leak and get more greasy to more you drive it.

I was wondering about the CV Boot, but I couldn't see any cracks, must just be the seal. I might just wait til Monday since its still under warranty and hopefully the dealer will fix it, a little nervous letting them mess around with it, but i figured whats a warranty if I wont be using it.

I do have the threads to the CV Boot fixes, will do this if dealer give me fits.

If its not lifted, they should not give you a problem at all.

+1 on a ripped boot or loose boot seal. It's not that uncommon but usually not until you've run up the mileage. I had to replace a boot on my 2nd gen at about 160,000 miles. Never had a problem with my 3rd gen up to the 152,000 miles when I sold her.

see if the cv boot is pulling off the axle. I had one on my MR2 do that from excessive vibration (bad ball joints and new strut combination). I tried the boot clamps from autozone and gave up... couldn't get it to stay on. I finally use a zip tie and it's been fine for 10k miles so far.
