Finally getting around to replacing the wheel hub assemblies on my 2010 trail. For those of you that have replaced them, any particular brand you like or any brand to stay away from?

Quite honestly, you get what you pay for with bearings and I have little to no faith in the low-priced aftermarket stuff available today. (I include almost anything from O'Reilly's in that category.) On the other end of the scale would be NAPA Premium products.

When you do a little digging on the cheap stuff, you'll find no name bearings from China are very common. Do you really want to entrust your safety to somebody who doesn't even put their name on something they make? At least insist on brand name bearings from a reputable manufacturer.

And don't put much stock in folks who got 150,000 miles out of their OEM bearings, then replaced them with Brand X and say, "I've got almost 500 miles on these new bearings and they're awesome." Yea, right.

If you want my 2 cents, OEM bearings are the only way to fly. As for the hubs, I hate to say they're less important, but they are easier to manufacture. Here's who I'd recommend:

This. Orielly's house brands are garbage. I was in a pinch before leaving for a big trip and had to replace my inner tie rod with one of their parts. It literally lasted only about 1200 miles before it failed. OEM is the only way to go especially if your vehicle sees off road use.

Material quality aside, the TRQ part doesn't appear to come with the big o-ring seal which you'll need.

I used a Blue Pit part on my first replacement and it was excellent. You get what you pay for.

My second replacement was a rush job, so I got a Car Quest Premium part from Advance Auto. It came with the o-ring and the inner dust seal, and the hub is powder-coated black for corrosion resistance. Price was too low to indicate good bearing quality, we'll see if it survives the 3 year warranty. If I'd had time, I would have ordered another Blue Pit.

Also...use an accurate torque wrench to tighten the CV axle nut to exact spec. Any tighter and you'll be replacing the bearing & hub again soon.

I had mentioned in a previous thread that although I haven't done this on my 4Runner I have done it numerous times on second gen tacomas and it's the same deal. When broke going through my divorce I needed to change one. I bought a cheap POS $30 ebay bearing and seals from advance auto. It's probably still on there. Lasted another few years no problem and many many many thousand miles. Yes if I were doing it now I would go with a better part. And NEVER would I use a cheap tie rod or ball joint. But the bearing design of these pretty much it would be impossible for it to come apart and cause an accident. I've seen SO many ball joints and tie rods from parts houses fail in under a few thousand miles. At work pretty much all we'll install is MOOG stuff. A lot of it is now made in China too but at least they have standards.
