Wheel Lock Key

I need to buy a replacement stock wheel lock key for my 03 4Runner.

I habve called several dealerships in the area (Houston) and have found that no one has them in stock. They can order them, but it takes at least 2 weeks to get the part in.

Does anyone know of an online site that carries these?

My wheel locks are from Mcgard. I have the piece of paper that has the key code to order a replacement so you should have a copy too. Check out there site at http://www.mcgard.com/default2.asp

I'm sure you could order directly from them.

I've Toyota brand lock. There is no paper came with the vehicle, just the wheel lock.

I went to a dealership because I couldn't find any document relating to the wheel locks.

The dealership checked them and told me that they were Toyota locks and gave me a number. I don't want to wait two weeks for the dealer to order them.

Any ideas?

I think Toyota uses Mcgard.

Your local Toyota dealer should have a master key lock set. I think that there is a total of 6 or 8 different codes that they use.

Blubble, are you sure you didn't get a small card with a serial number on it for your key/wheel locks? I bought my set at the stealer (McGard/Toyota branded) and inside the packaging was a serial number for the key and an order form in case you wanted an extra lock or key. That's how I got my extra key. I don't know how they would give you an identical key if you don't have that number to match to the key though. Assuming that it is a McGard lock, the key itself has no serial number stamped into it (for obvious reasons), just some patent numbers. Even if the dealer ordered them, how would they know what serial number lock to use? There has got to be a record somewhere. Hopefully as SERNNR said, they have masters.

Did the stealer install them for you? If they did, they should have given you the entire packaging with the numbers and card, etc. (with your original 4 lugs). Don't know, bud, but good luck.

Dealer installed for me too at no extra cost when I purchased my 4Runner, they gave me the key and original 4 lugs, nothing else.

I don't think I got a piece of paper with the code on it, but I went to a Toyota dealer on saturday and they matched my locks with their master key set and gave me the number (54).

They told me that these are Toyota brand locks, but they could be wrong. I remember seeing the lock before and I believe it was a yellowish metal color.

I think I will call McGard and see if they can help.

If not, does anyone know of an online source for Toyota parts that might be able to ship faster than two weeks. I have a tire with a slow leak and can't get it fixed without the key. The tires are aftermarket and were not bought from the dealer.

Just wanted to say thank you for your helpful post.

I did not have the code either, but McGard asked me to send them a picture of the pattern. When I did, they said they found a match but no guarantees it will be the one. However, they offer full refund if it does not work. Hopefully it will be the one.

If you are in a rush, why not go back to the dealer that matched yours to their master set to give you the number, and ask them to use their master to remove the lock on that wheel. Then you can get the tire fixed, and replace the lock when you get the key from McGard. As long as the rest of the lugs are tight, you could drive with five on that wheel for a short time until the key arrives. If driving with five lugs freaks you out, then get a replacement standard lug until the key arrives, then you can replace it.
