Hi guys,

I came across to an oem 3rd gen wheels complete with center caps and lug nuts for $80.. Is this an reasonable deal? or should I go for some other ones instead?

reason is, I want to paint my wheels either flat black or matte black.. with an second set, I can mess up an not worry about the ones that are on my rig right now.

not a bad deal at all. and its hard to really mess up the painting part.


its your prep you need to make sure is done right. the paint will be the easy part.

I would buy them to have an extra set (winter/summer). I got a set of LC wheels that are 16x8 so I will put my 285's on those cause there wider than the stock 16x7's. and put some winter tires on my stock rims. dont hurt and the Lug nuts alone are like $50 or so (i think).

good luck and then again, $80 could go towards something else too

16 inchers or 15s?

They can look identical if we're discussing the triple double spoke ones that came stock on most 3rd gens. If they are the 5 stars then all the better.

4 rims for $80 is a steal around here. Just be sure what you are buying will work for you.

I painted mine and they turned out nicely. Like all painting, the prep work is the most important.

I would like to spend some more on my rig but have a limited budget atm.

what were your procedures for painting your rims? what paint and primer did you use?

I have pics on my Facebook link of the paint and primer used. We cleaned the rims thoroughly after a lot of time spent sanding.

We used a plumbers pipe cleaning tool to clean the lug nut recesses and so on. Wet sanding also to remove the clear coat on the face of the rims.

got a few questions,

what grit of sand papers did you guys used for it? how many coats of paint did you use for the primer and the paint itself?

how did it handle the tire installers? did the paint chip or anything?

1800-3200 grit wet sand paper.

We used 2 coats of primer and 3 coats of the paint. Then 2 applications of clear coat.

Handled the tire installers fine.
