Wheel selection

I just put the toytec ultimate lift in my 99 4runner and now i'm looking for wheels. I have decided on the goodyear wrangler duratrac tire 285/75/16 and now I need to decide on a wheel. I want a flat black wheel 16''x8 but not sure what backspace to go with. I was told 4.5 or less will work but not sure which to go with. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what company/model to go with that is reasonable in price.

Too little backspacing (which pushes the wheel out and causes a larger arc) and you will cause more rubbing when turning.

Too much backspacing and the tire will rub the upper control arm.

I know of someone that is running 285/75-16 BFG ATs on stock wheels, 16x7. These stock wheels have a backspacing of ~4 5/8". He does not have rubbing on the UCAs and is not running wheel spacers.

A wide tire on a narrow wheel (285 on a 7" rim) will have more sidewall bulge. The same tire on a wider wheel will have less sidewall bulge.

Without actually trying that combo, a 285 on a 8" wide wheel and 4.5" backspacing should be fine.

(don't get backspacing and offset confused. Backspacing is a measurement from the mounting surface to the bead flange. Offset is a measurement of how much the mounting flange is offset from the center of the wheel)

I'm running 285's, 16X8 wheels with 4.25" of backspace and have not rubbing issues. I did some trimming on my front plastic bumper valance and am not running mudflaps in the front....but you have a higher lift than I do, so you should be fine......

He're a shot of mine from the front, side by side with a Limited that is stock height and stock wheels...

These were obviously taken on the same day, last fall. If you look at my signature, I'm running the Tundra/toytec spacer in front, with LC 8 wraps in the back.

Hope this helps!

What wheels did you decide on?

I have a question about wheels guys. Right now I have my stock 6 spoke Toyota wheels, 16 x 7, with 265 75 16 cooper tires. Can I mount the tires to an inch wider wheel? As in 16 x 8? Or do they have to be 7 wide?

No offense but if you do a search for "wheel" or "wheels" you will get plenty of good results. There have already been many post your wheels threads this year.
