wheel/tire question for 2001 SR5 4x4

I recently purchased a 2001 SR5 4x4 with only 85k miles that is in very good condition...it just desperately needs new tires. I had BFG All Terrains on my previous vehicle (2000 Ford F250) and was pleased with their performance but I am certainly open to trying a different brand. The problem is that my 4Runner has the factory 15" wheels and it seems that all terrain tires that fit a 15" wheel have become all but extinct. I was able to find a set of 16" 4Runner wheels in good condition at a local shop for $300 but wanted to make sure that 16" wheels won't adversely affect vehicle performance (breaking, etc...). All things being equal I'd also prefer to save the $300! So the question is will 16" wheels fit my 4Runner without compromising performance? If not, any suggestions on finding an all terrain tire to fit 15" wheels? Thanks in advance!

Most 4runners came with 16's.. Same with Tacomas.

I think only 15's were US because I've never seen a 3rd gen on in Canada on 15's...

If they are not factory, confirm offset/back spacing and width.
