I know there are tons of threads about the blasted clips, mostly in the context of "how do I remove them?" or "broke them all off" etc.
Already been through that phase, but now am ready to reinstall my liners and with about half the clips missing and the other half resolutely embedded in their original place, I'm debating which way to reinstall: remove the remaining clips or put new clips in the empty spots?
Seems there are two ways to use these clips, either as the liner retainer itself, or as a receiver for a screw. I want to go with one consistent method.
I can start with all empty slots and just install the clips from the liner side, so no screw needed and the big round head holds the shield.
Or, I can install the clips into the metal frame and then find some screw or other clip with a big enough head to push/screw into it. Downside to using a screw is having to unscrew them all next time.
Or, I can go with the first option, but instead of a screw, use a clip like shown in pic#2 below, just to ensure the clip remains engaged in the frame.
And then another question came to mind: is there a safety reason for *not* using metal screws? Like, there're situations where you would *want* the whole thing to come off more easily? I'm thinking about how the hood liner clips are plastic, so that in the event of an engine fire, the clips melt and release the liner onto the engine to help smother the fire. Something along those lines.
Yeah, I know I'm grossly overthinking it, but I know there's at least some of you who do, too.
What do you think?
Oh, and no flares or anything else to consider, these are just bare wheel wells.
