Here is some info I found online from another forum. It was an email about the trails at High Lakes....

I am thrilled to have someone reaching out to inform themselves about the High Lakes OHV area. It's an incredible area, and it's one of our hidden little gems out here in Northern California. I believe if you guys have some mildly modified Xterra's, you should have a blast up there. Minimum 33's with a locker with good skid plate protection/rocker protection/bumpers will get you to a large majority of the area.
1. The trails are all meant to be "jeep" wide. The main route down into Spring Valley, and out to the 2 popular lakes (Campbell and Long) are wide enough for full size rigs, with a few spots that have some Alders growing into the trail, but won't cause any damage. There is only one single track trail up there for the dirtbikers/quads. Friends of the High Lakes maintains the trails, and we trim back the brush twice a year. So no worries there.
2. There is no daily fee up at the High Lakes. (yet...)
3. The High Lakes is in the Lassen/Plumas National Forest. I found that there was no restrictions regarding Red Sticker dirt bike vehicles. http://ohv.parks.ca.gov/pages/1234/files/2007 carb revised riding seasons.pdf
4. The fishing is pretty good. I've always been successful in Campbell Lake, Long, Bear, Chips, and Morris Lake. No special regulations, other than no live bait. Kastmasters, rooster tails for spinning work good, and fly fishings a kick out on a float tube, canoe, or a kayak.
As of now, they haven't put in place the fire restrictions, but I'm sure they will soon. Keep an eye on the Lassen National Forest website for any restrictions. We will also post to our Facebook page when restrictions go into effect. Usually around the end of June. You must have a campfire permit in your posession and use the fire rings at the campsites. Campsites are all first come first serve. Everything is pack it in, pack it out. We have an old outdated website with pretty good information and history of the area, and maps. Friends of The High Lakes - Portal If you haven't browsed it yet.
I encourage you and your friends to please all join our email list on the website, to get updates and important information that may not always be posted to our Facebook website. We will be having a spring maintenance day on May the 16th to make sure all our trails are cleared of downed trees. This information will soon be posted to our Facebook page and to our website, and sent out to our email list.
A good trail ride is out to Ben Lomond lookout and back. It has a nice view atop Belden and the Highway 70 canyon. Morris lake is very extreme, 37s plus lockers front and rear. Saddle Lake is extreme as well, 35s and 2 lockers can do it. Campbell, and Long lake are the most popular lakes with decent camping. It may be busy depending on the time you go up. Weekends are fairly busy. The trail down to bear lake is pretty fun, 33's and a locker- it has a slight pucker factor section, and it is usually a little thicker with brush. The fishing is good there, and the camping could be nice if you get it to yourselves. Spring Valley is the first lake, and is the lake all the folks with the stock rigs camp at. It's the most accessible for everyone, so it's one to try and avoid, especially on a weekend.
Just remember to stick to the designated trails, and don't wheel off the trails.

So I presume that you where going to be running the easy, moderate part of this area?
Me personally, doesn't matter too much, but others here probably will be struggling or have major problem= to no fun.
Just throwing this out there, with all these days of snow fall coming this week, there is enough snow covered dirt trails around Bowman area.
I'm game either way.
I probably will hit the high lakes little later this yr, checking out some them fishing holes.

I'm down to TRY to run anything. It will be my first time wheeling my t4r and my confidence is a little... lacking. It's not like when I was in the Army. We could basically wheel for hours, and I wouldn't care because it's not my car. I just want to make sure I will be fine at the end of the day, lol. :fear:

Wasn't meant to scare some off, my trail maps show that the lower section is pretty moderate and should be fine in general for everyone.
Them army jeeps are designed to take a beatting, besides, if they get damaged, grab another one.

Gold Lake is a good place for snow camping.
Did that 2yrs ago, my carport canopy collapsed on us over night from a foot of snow fall.

Verdi Peak is fun! If you are in Sacramento, it is a quick little trip and fairly simple.
I might be down for this, sounds like fun. A little late checking in so we will see what happens. I just hit Verdi Peak this weekend but I am down to jump back in and hit something new.

Yeah... that's going to rule it out for me. I do fine in light snow but my tires are not so great in deep snow since this is my daily driver and the Sierras are getting absolutely dumped on this week, with a lot more to come.
Love all the suggestions though, I know very little trails so hoping there will be more trips planned soon when the weather is a little more agreeable.
Sounds good, I suppose I"ll plan to meet up with you guys then we can go from there?
