Wheels Made In China!

I recently got a nail in one of my tires...While I had the wheel off, I figured I would clean the 6000 miles of dirt and brake dust from the inside of my wheels.

(Got to love Opti-Coat on the wheels! About 5 min, some APC, and 2 passes with my wheel brush, and they look like new! Look at that beading action!)

With the wheel clean, I then noticed something surprising.....

I would have thought the wheels would be made in Japan....I wounder what other parts on our 4runner that are made in China!

I bought a Seiko watch recently, and the band was made in China. That surprised me. And, when I removed the stock speakers from my F-150 - you guessed it; made in China.

I laugh at all the people that scream we should all buy American.

Well the windshield is made in japan that I am certain since I got a biga$$ rock in the middle of it last year on my fishing trip 10 minutes before arriving at destination. And when I went to pickup the truck I checked it out to see if all was ok and I saw the made in japan.

But I am also certain a lot of parts are made in china ....

There's a factory in China called GAC Toyota Motor Corp. Its a joint venture with Toyota Japan to produce certain vehicles and parts... They make some FJC's there as well... (Well they used to anyway)

Why is made in China relevant? Most of the "premium goods" in the USA are made in China to varying degrees. Apple for example.., designed in California but built in factories in Asia that have suicide nets installed. Yet despite the cheap labour - with enough checks in place you can produce a premium product. Half the components in luxury cars are made in asia. Even nowadays the special FX in hollywood blockbuster movies are being made in Asia. Made in, designed in, assembled in. They are mostly just irrelevant consumer catchphrases intended to keep your mind off the fact that some part of whatever you just purchased most likely came from an Asian factory with Suicide nets between floors.

SR5 + TRD Pro wheels are made in china.

Where are the TRD Off Road/Trail wheels made? Don't believe this has been answered yet.

Yup, 2017 Pro wheels are made in Thailand.
Of course I was WTF, but not surprised.

It's a wheel.......no moving parts and the lathe and forge work was robotic. I don't want my Engine assembled in China at this point, but some parts, like a brake disc or wheel don't worry Me at all. Soon enough, there won't BE any youth in American Tech or Engineering and the Chinese are cranking out qualified people. Remember We laughed at Japan's offerings once............

China and Japan have very different ways of doing things. It will never be like Japan. Chinese culture is way more interesting if you ask me, but lying and cheating is totally engrained and expected as normal there unless you have built a very long relationship with somebody.

China is totally screwed up, their economy will implode soon. I HIGHLY reccomend this interview Kyle Bass just did about China: YouTube

Pro wheels are made in Thailand. The Off-road wheels and sr5 wheels are made in China. Not sure where the limited wheels were made.

Trd forge ( fake beadlocks) are made / forged in Japan. And they are the only forged wheels trd has. The pro wheels are not forged.

There was a sticker on each of my OEM TRD Pro wheels that says Best Quality Wheel Factory Thailand.

I love that. There's a used car dealer near my home called "Good Cars Only."
What's in a name?

For those that want true Japanese quality, I think Enkei is the way to go. Not all of their wheels are made in Japan though.

SCS wheels use the same company as Toyota to build their wheels, they are also made in Thailand. I think they used to be made in China but moved. That's probably a good thing.

I wish I took a picture of the sticker before mounting the tires on the wheels. It was on the inside of the wheel so it can't be seen once the tire is mounted.
