Guy I bought my Pro from said he worked 100% off commissions. If you talked to someone similar, likely they would have been much more responsive if you were talking about a vehicle on the lot. I did order a Pro, 5 months later they said they could not get it. Luckily found one a month later at a different local dealer already on the lot. I think these things are hard to order no matter what you want.

Corporate,I try to make the dealership my last stop. Unless something major(not likely) happens,I try to never return after picking up my new ride.

Which 4R model are you trying to acquire? If its the TRD Pro then I think you have your assumptions wrong.

You'll have to order through a dealership. They should have a good idea what their inventory will be and when it will come in. I'm sure their orders have already been placed.
Let me clarify on how "ordering" a TRD Pro works cause I'm gonna guess no one gives a rats ass on pre-ordering any other 2019 model.
Ordering a TRD Pro is a misnomer. What you are doing is putting a deposit and being placed on a dealership wait list. Whether or not the dealer gets a pro is not up to the dealer but Toyota Corporate. If a dealer could order a pro they would order as many as possible to fulfill demand. Dealerships won't know if they get allocation(s) or not but generally due to past sales they have a good idea. They also won't know how many will get allocated.
It is best to work with a dealer that has a good history with selling a number of pros as this usually means their allocations are historically higher than others. But you also want to work with a dealership that sells as close to MSRP as possible so you dont get hosed - rare but not unheard of. Unfortunately, it may mean working with a dealership not local to you. Whether or not a dealership has a wait list open for deposits is really up to the dealership, not Toyota Corporate. Dealerships are also under no obligation to take a deposit. Many have had luck with finding a pro local to them but many have also had to go outside their region to find one. Good luck.

You are not gonna order nothing because the 2019 is a Fan Boy 4Runner with only aesthetics and nothing new in the engine. And a weird useless roof rack !

My dealer placed my TRD Pro order yesterday (8/2). Apparently allocations opened yesterday, assembly was to begin today, the truck is due to arrive in the US on 9/7 and I should take deliver in Mid to late September. I placed a pre-order deposit of $500 2 months ago.
I asked if there were any options for a sunroof and he said no options were available. We looked through the description and it did NOT mention sunroof. Fingers crossed that it will come with a sunroof!

As someone who just purchased a Cavalry Blue TRDP, +1 for everything you said. This was exactly how it was explained to me multiple times, and how my situation went down. Had to hunt for a dealer willing to sell at MSRP, put down a deposit, waited a week until they could do swaps with another dealer for a blue TRDP, got my temporary VIN emailed to me and then waited. Almost 2 months later, I got the call (after multiple "just checking in" emails from me) to pick up my truck. Was a total hassle and they had no impetus to provide me any customer service whatsoever as they felt they were doing me the favor of selling to me at MSRP. Was very dissatisfied with the staff and the process once the truck came in, but that's whats to be expected here in the US. Dealerships are scum.

That's 2k more for a TRDP than this year's MSRP. What a crock. Glad I didn't wait and jumped for a 2018.
