When I Plastic Dip rims?

When I plastic dip my rims do I need to get as much of the flaked paint off as possible or no? Can I just go and spray them no issues?

I'm not sure what you mean by flaked paint. Basically, Plasti Dip needs a clean, dry, solid surface to cling to. Clean/degrease, dry, and then hit the surface being dipped with alcohol and let that dry a minute and then spray away. Recommend about six coats on wheels.

You probably already know this, but make sure to give ample time in between coats to ensure a good smooth service and a clean finish. Approx 15-20 min.

I assume you're talking about the commonly flaking alloy rims. Take a brass brush to it and get that all off before dipping them. Make sure to have the first sprayed coat light, better to do many light coats than a few thick ones. Also don't bother taping off the tires, just spray directly on the tire edge and you can peel it off.

To add to the above post, also mask off your brakes if you are dipping with the wheels/tires still on. This can be as simple as feeding newspaper or plastic bags through the spokes. But make sure there is slight clearance between the masking material and the back of the wheel. You don't want the dip to make a bridge from your wheel to the masking media.

Interesting info, I had always assumed that guys were removing the wheels from the vehicle, laying them flat on a flat surface then hitting them with the rattle can. This way, no runs will develop by standing vertical.
