Just curious if anyone knew if a panhard drop is necessary with a 2 1/2" drop? Has anyone noticed any handling differences without the panhard mod?

as with most questions the answer is:"It depends".
The drop bracket is there to compensate for the axle lateral "movement" after lifting the rear. This helps to make sure the axle lines up with the front again. Now keep in mind that if you do a bit of math the lateral "movement" of the axle is minimal given you lifted a few inches and the length of the actual bar. The flip side of the coin is that when the axle compresses the lateral movement and axle roll center will be different from what it was stock. So this is something that will require some careful measurement and experimentation to get right.
Given all of the blah blah above, unless you plan on doing a lift of the rear more than 3" or so there should be no need for this mod, as I only know of 2 people using it. Most of the other people who wheel hard have had no issues going without it. I dont have it either. I might use it in the future if I lift the rear extensively.
Also there is 2 ways in resolving the issue, one drop the mount bracket, or two lengthen the panhard bar the appropiate length. But as I said before this is something that will have to be carefully calculated and tested, otherwise you can be worse of than you were with the stock setup.

Thank you. I was trying to make sure everything will be ok, so I can order my lift kit finally. I was trying to hold out for cornfed, but looks like I will just go with daystars. Thanks again!

in short, I would say no, with the Daystar lift you will not need a drop bracket. with 2" of lift in the rear, the panhard bar will still be almost completely parallel to the rear axle. I only needed the panhard drop bar when I went up to 3.5" in the rear, and even then, it wasn't absolutely necessary.
But with 2" of lift back there, I would actually say you shouldn't use the drop bracket at all.
