When to change timing belt?

I'm finally getting around to replacing the TB on my vehicle as it has 230k on the original belt and is on it's last miles. Is it recommended to put blue loctite on the crank pulley bolt? I read everywhere but i'm not getting a clear answer on this.

That thing torques down to 220 pounds. You ain’t gonna need it.

My beloved 4runner is running beautifully at 160K miles. I noticed on the engine cover it says the timing belt was changed back at 86,000 miles (before I owned it). When is a good time to change the timing belt? I'll likely buy the parts online (Toyota genuine parts of course) and hire my local mechanic for the job.

Im happy my 2010 has a chain! But it's recommended to change at 40 thousand. I'm at 100 thousand no issues yet.

Replacing radiator hoses was mentioned in this thread. Anyone have a finger on how much replacing the upper and lower hoses should cost?
Local garage quoted me $424 which seems really high.

That’s insanely expensive, when I bought new oem hoses I think it cost like $50 total for the hoses and they take about 20 minutes to change, I used new oem clamps so that added maybe $15 to the cost

Thank you. Sounds about what I thought it should be.
It is becoming more a test of sanity to go to a garage for work to be done …. Also had a national tire shop try to tell me that I had to replace major rear suspension parts after the only had mounted a new tire. Guess the mechanic must have been working on commission basis (?). Paid them for mounting the tire and left not to return.

What world did you come from? It is every 90k miles, and they last much longer than that if you really push them - and if it fails on the 5vz, it does not damage the engine.

Seems much better than a timing chain that if it fails takes out the whole motor... Chains are most definitely NOT lifetime parts.

The chain may stretch a cunt hair way before it would fail. Good thing I can recognize the symptoms and maintain my truck.
