when to wax???

i just got a black 06 SE and i bought the paint protection with it. Does anyone know how long i should wait before i should wax my car, if any. And if so what should i use, wax or polish, etc... i live in an apartment in Bethesda, MD so i have to go to a car washing station with all of my cleaning supplies in order to clean my car, its tough so any suggestions will help

What did the dealer tell you about the paint protection and maint. ??

Usually that paint protection is nothing more than a dealer applied polymer sealant , which you can buy and appy yourself. Goes on and off like wax.

you should be able to wax anytime depending on what "specs" the dealer gave you. Just some friendly advice , don't waste your money in the future on stuff like that. (please don't take offense to my statement , it's not meant to offend at all). I just don't like dealers talking people into that stuff , Ive been detailing cars for a long time,and hate the BS that they throw at you for that kind of stuff.

yeah i agree, but my uncle worked at the dealer and they did the paint and under body sealant for $200 and i wanted the underbody coat so i said what the hell! They also will come to my apt and remove any sap, rain, etc.... stains that can't be removed.

That's not bad at all, good deal for you even for the under body protection. I've seen dealer just rape people for this stuff....like 1000-1500 buck's.....what a bunch of scammer's.
 
You can wax is right away. The paint on new vehicles is cured at the factory.

After any touchup or bodyshop work, then you'll need to wait.



I don't know what the apartment rules are, but Quick and Easy Wash is great.

No hose needed. You can spray of major grime at the car wash, then use QEW. Plenty of info on www.autopia.org

Do not use the brush at the carwash on your black paint.
 
Around here I usually recommend people wax, at minimum, once before winter and once after winter. Not sure how much winter you get, so safe to say twice a year.

If the dealer did the paint protection, you could easily wait a few months or more to wax, but doing it sooner won't "hurt" anything.

When I have the time, I like to wash my daily vehicles roughly once per week, wax every couple months, and do a more thourough polish/wax twice per year (if it's a dark vehicle)......but I like shiny :D
 
yeah the color of my vehicle is black and i was going to order the KLASSE AIO & SG, but does anyone know if after i use these products would it stil be ok to wax my car or would i have to claybar or something first. Are the KLASSE products the best and easiest things to use, and if so any reccomendations on where the cheapest place to get it is? Thanks for all of the sugestions, it realy helps a newbie
 
AIO will probably remove the dealer applied sealant. AIO is a great chemical cleaner. You can wax after AIO and SG but the wax may take away from the look SG gives you. You may even like the look. Its all personal preference.

AIO and SG are great products but IMO not the best. Everyone will have their own opinion on what is the best.

Any product will look fantastic with the proper paint prep ie; polishing to remove defects etc. Each product gives its own look, again its what look you are after.

A nice deep wet look can be acheived by using AIO topped with a good carnuba wax.
 
I have used AIO and SG for 5 years. I've never found the SG easy to remove.

AIO + carnuba wax looks very nice on black and is easy. AIO is one of the best cleaner/polishes. I've never put wax over SG.


I'm switching to Blackfire Polish and Paint Protection. It it suppose to have a wetter/deeper apperance on darker colors than Menzera. Only place that sells it: http://www.properautocare.com/


Zaino is another option. Meguiars and Clearkote also makes great products. Clearkote Moose Wax can be applied in direct sunlight. I may try the Clearkote products in the future.


The dealer paint protection should last 6 months to a year.

You should be able to feel any contamination on the paint after you wash it. If you have any and want to remove it, clay, polish, wax/sealer.
 
easiest way to tell if you vehicle needs to be waxed..if water no longer forms large beads on the flat spots of the vehicle.

Depending on climate, this can be anywhere from 3 to 6 months.
 
AIO is a chemical cleaner (as stated above). . but definately NOT a polish. . it has NO polishing characteristics. . I think Zaino has the best marketing department in the car care industry, but its definately NOT the best product. For me. . once a year its a full weekend detail. . Wash, Clay, Wash, Optimum Polish, Clearkote Red Machine Glaze, Clearkote Moosewax. Top that with some Natty Blue paste Carnuba and you WILL have the "WETTEST" looking truck in town. Garaunteed. .
 
When I got my truck it already had the ToyoGuard Plus with it. You should have received a bottle of the "sealant" which appears to be wax to me. I feel the same way that Falls does about the Dealers raping you on the price. Plus I stuck my noggin under the truck to see the so called undercoating, they sprayed the chassis but didn't coat the whole underside. The only thing worth while is I get the first oil change at the dealer and VIN etching on the window. Which helped out on the Insurance. It was only a dollar more to insure the truck compared to our 01 Civic. I was quite amazed by that.

After I bought my galactic gray 06, I started reading up on the Meguiar's forums to see what people were doing to best protect their paint. I've always liked Meguiar's products, so I figured I'd start there.

Then I found a five-step detailing process which works wonders, but takes a long time (8 hrs for me, but I'm anal retentive). It works like this:

Wash and rinse (removes large contaminants)
Clay Bar (removes small contaminants)
Paint Cleaner (removes light swirls)
Polish (makes finish glossy before waxing)
Wax (seals in glossy finish, seals and protects)

Since you mentioned you wash your truck at a local car wash, I'm guessing you probably are limited on time and space. Since that's the case, I would recommend at minimum: (1) wash the truck (2) clay bar (3) wax.

If you've never used a clay bar, don't worry, it's really easy and gives great results - your paint finish will be smooth as glass to the touch. Now, if you have light swirls in the paint already, you will want to do the paint cleaner before the wax. If the finish is all good, then the 3 step wash/clay/wax should do the trick.

Deep Crystal #2 Paint Cleaner
#7 Show Car Glaze Polish
Hi-Tech Yellow Wax

Give it a try... I guarantee you'll love it. I just finished my 4Runner tonight... looks awesome!!!
