Where did you mount your air bag air valves?

Hello all,

I am ordering airbags for the rear this weekend and planning on installing them when they arrive. Looking at the install instructions you have to run either both lines or get a T connector and run that somewhere. mounted where its easy to access but out of the way etc. Just curious where some of you have mounted this air valve? And if it works good in that location or any gotchas, like for example installing in/near wheel well but gets covered in mud etc. I don't have onboard air yet, but even when I do it will probably still be separate and I will just use an air line to fill.

Did you have to modify your airbags when you lifted your truck?

[MENTION=65614]Antman[/MENTION] did an outstanding mount for his including a small compressor. I wish I would have done it like his. If you do that, you need to do his rear cupholder mod too.

I took a simple approach and mounted the air filler on the small panel that also has the two light connectors. Drilled a hole and put the valve stem in.

Wow, very cool! I am looking at either a cheap Viair or Superflow for this and bike tires, wonder if one of those will fit in there.

Outside, underneath. In the same small panel that has the trailer light plugs. Yes, it's a PITA to reach, just like the trailer connectors. Out of the way when off-road, won't get torn off.

I tried to find my old photo, but gave up. Went out and got a new one.

This is where SDHQ installed my valves. Easy access, lift gate closes fine, easy to fill bags. Easy to push down on tire gauge rather than pushing sideways.

I was told I was not able to put longer coils on the back of my truck because the Firestone airbags are made only for the stock coil length.

I ask because I would like a little lift on my truck but it is also very important for me to tow with airbags. I tow a heavy 8' x 14" trailer with my RZR on it to sand dunes. Maybe there is something out there that I can have both.....like you....haha....

btw...I have ICON coilovers in the front and ICON 2.0 in back with stock rear coils with airbags. Front is cranked up to level truck. Stock UCAs.

If you call Airlift and tell them the amount of lift you will be adding to the rear they will send you bags that are a little longer.

But...
I can tell you this- my bags have been in there for 140,000 plus miles- including plenty of off-roading with full flex. I also tow more than, well, probably anybody I know... All that on standard Airlift bags in 1.5" SAW rear coils.

The bags do not work the way most people think. They do not extend in length much. What they do is bulge out of the coil springs and fill the void between each spring wrap. They keep the spring from compressing into itself. They are also super tough. I don't know how long I ran them (probably an entire winter) when one of the lines cut and split by the nipple. I reconnected the line and been running fine ever since.

I've said it 1000 times- best $100 you will spend on your truck.

Thank you Antman. I sure like your answer. Being able to have a lift and be able to tow with airbags. Thank you for explaining, it sounds logical. Only difference is my airbags are Firestone--prolly why they were unwilling to install longer ICON coils with those airbags....liability and all. They is SDHQ here in Gilbert, AZ. But if my husband installs the 1.5" SAW coils.....no problems.
