Where did you mount your trailer brake controller?

I need to mount a trailer brake controller in my 4Runner for our camper. I'm curious where others have mounted theirs. I want to be able to see it and adjust while driving as needed, but I'm not crazy about putting it right under the steering wheel. Here is the unit I have.

I mounted my Tenkonsha P3 brake controller here. This controller can be unplugged and removed when not in use or moved from vehicle to vehicle. I do unclip my keys when im driving so just the ignition key is there. The whole set of keys hung down and scratched the face up a bit. I have no issues with leg room.

That's exactly where I put my P3 controller. I have long legs and I don't have any issues with it getting in the way and it's easy to access while driving

I will third that recommendation on both brake controller unit and placement. I have mine there and for the most part never notice it. No problem using the controls or reading the display.

I have the P3 = I recommend it too.

I mounted mine on the fuse box door, to the left of the column. I also picked up a spare door from the wrecker = that way, when I don’t need the controller, I can just pop it off. No issues with hitting it.

I mounted mine above the fuse door and below the switches. It is the only place I fount where my knees or shin wouldn't constantly hit it. I do have to remove it is I want to access my fuses, but that is no big deal. One benifit to this location is it is real easy to access while driving if I need to.

I mounted my p3 to the fuse panel cover near my left knee. It allows the wire to snake through the finger hole which keeps it looking clean. I also bought a spare cover to switch it when not in use which leaves no extra holes in the dash.

I did the exact same thing. Ordered a new panel cover from Rock Auto (IIRC) for ~$10 when I’m not using the brake controller and just take the panel with the controller bracket off and stow it.

I have set up the Hopkins Insight modular controller and also a Scangauge 2 to watch the engine & trans and 4 tire pressure readings.
The controller adjustments and override switch is to the right of the ignition. The brake power gauge is below the speedometer (see 10%) to the left of the odometer button.
It is easy to reach it in front of my right knee.
The control module is above the left foot parking brake, high enough to be out of the way. I mounted it on a small aluminum plate and drilled 3 holes in the cover trim for the bolts.
I snapped out the stock SR5 blank switch plug to the left of the fan control knob and made an aluminum bracket for the control/override switch. The bracket is bolted to the switch blank and bolted to the control/override switch with SS machine screws, nuts & washers.
I have been driving with the Hopkins installed for months and it never gets in the way, I do not even know it is there. But, I can reach it in a second if needed.

My travel trailer acquisition and towing outing has been postponed, but I am ready when time arrives.

I got the Hopkins Insight brake controller as well. I have my slider mounted similar to the previous post. I put my display on the top of the dash at the lower A pillar corner. The unit itself is mounted behind the driver side kick panel.
