Where/how do you store your grease gun?

I bought a grease gun a few months ago to do the driveshaft zerks. Had it in the box it came in on a garage cabinet shelf. Some of the grease apparently liquefied, leaked from the gun, and soaked the box and shelf.

What am I missing here?

That's what they do. I store mine in a plastic storage container with paper towels on the bottom to catch the leakage.

Put it in a plastic bag, and just wipe it down every time you use it.

On top of oil drain pan I use for oil changes.

Hang it upright wrapped in a plastic bag. Keeping it laying down will deform the grease in the tube if not used frequently especially in warm climates.

Glad I'm seeing this as mine is hanging bare ass and horizontal on the wall.

I hang it in the trash can with the body inside the can, handle hooked over the edge to the outside.

I keep mine in two heavy duty trash bags. I keep it inside the inner one at all times. So when I use it, I pull the inner bag out of the outer bag and use the grease gun while it is still inside the bag. Once i'm done, throw it back into the other bag, keeps my hands clean.
