Where is my remote start box?

I bought my 99 4Runner Ltd a couple of weeks ago and all I got was a key to lock/unlock the doors, and start the truck.

The kid I bought it from said that it has a remote start that locks and unlocks the doors but the key fob was broken when he bought it. I found half of the key fob broken in the glove box. I don't know what kind of remote start the truck has, in order to buy a new key fob.

I looked around under the hood but I couldn't find a control box for the remote start. I'm hoping I can order a new key fob from the manufacturer and set it up to work with my trucks already installed remote start. Anyone have any ideas on where to look for this box?

Start under the dash, looked for lots of T taps and wire splices around the steering column, then trace the wires back to the mystery box.

Are you actually stating that the vehicle should have remote "Start". Or should have remote "Entry"? Big difference.

Was it a factory Toyota remote? I don't think any of the 3rd Gen's came with a remote start. You'd definitely have to find the control box for the aftermarket remote start. Like mentioned above...it's usually installed under the dash, possibly behind the glove compartment.

I looked under the dash on driver and passenger sides and never found any control box but lots of weird things going on with the wiring. Found lots of wiring taped up and half torn out, and some taps going directly into the fuse slots that are tagged heated seats. Might be part of the reason why nothing much electrical works in this truck...

Thanks for the suggestions!

I have a 99 with a viper remote start. The control box is under the hood on the right side of the engine compartment.
