Where to buy new headlights for my 4Runner

Hey Forum, I have a 2005 4 Runner and would like to replace my old cracked, faded, foggy headlights with some brand new original stock headlights.

Can anyone tell me if they still sell these and where I can buy them ? Thanks for the assistance .

Look for a brand called TYC. They make one of the better aftermarket assemblies out there. You can find them online or ebay for around $55-70 each for the '03-05's.

Anyone managed to find a 3rd party seller for Koito brand headlamps? They're the manufactuerer Toyota contracts with for their lights.

i suggest you to get the cheapest aftermarket light, like tyc or depo, then have a projector retrofit done, in the end, itll come out close to what you would have to pay on brand new oem toyota lights. plus u get a better performance and light at the same cost.

This is my plan for the future, but the issue I have is the quality of the lens on the cheapo aftermarket units. A couple members bought cheap aftermarket units to do retrofits and the lens clouded up not even a year after then bought them.

I spent a lot of time figuring out what to do my headlights. I tried the sanding and UV coating route. It lasted about a 1 1/2 years so if you don't have the funds to replace the the headlight unit now, it is not a bad alternative.

I looked at the aftermarket lights. TYC does seem to get the best marks but even with their products there seems to be problems. I decided to just go with factory (bought mine from Partznet.)

I had planned to upgrade to the 2006+ headlights and started doing research. The overall costs just didn't seem to justify it. It was the bumper trim piece that killed the deal for me. They don't come in the color of my 4runner which would have meant even higher costs for painting.

I saved all the information I had collected on upgrading with a plan to put it into a new thread so somebody could take off from where I left off. After I already ordered the old style headlights, I had a brilliant idea on what to do about the bumper trim (and fix the gap at the same time).

You'd have to do some work but I think you could do a Satoshi or billet mod to replace the bumper trim under the headlights like with the grills. I'd probably do both grill and the bumper trim and paint them black.

It would be easy to shape the bumper trim out of mesh using sheet metal pliers. Only the rectangular hole where it connects to the fender would slightly difficult to make it look factory.

The other thing that might help make the mod easy, but I don't have an 06+ headlamp to check, is that it looks like both headlights have a removable sizing ring where you mount the actual lamp. So you might be able to swap the headlights housings and use the old sizing rings. This would enable you to still use your original light bulbs and wiring. I pulled them off my old headlamps to see if I could modify them to accept HIR bulbs without having to modify the bulbs themselves.

BTW. I just put in my new older style headlamp. The light output is surprisingly great.

I've has some good luck with kbcarstuff.com Their HID kits and aftermarket headlamps have worked very well for me. I upgraded to HID about a year ago and the difference in the light and pattern is night & day! no pun intended. If you want the look and functionality.....check it out. Good stuff.

Did you do a retrofit or just pop the HID bulbs into the stock reflectors?

I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the Rock Auto $42 TYC brand unless anyone has had major issues with them. I figure with an extra set I can take my time on the retrofit.
