did you want a TOYOTA key? or a key that will fit your 4runner? you can get a key that will fit at any hardware store. if you want a TOYOTA brand key you're gonna have to go to the dealership.
Ideally I'd like a Toyota key. Thanks I'll check with my dealer to see how much they charge.
I noticed my OEM keys were getting worn out. I went to the dealer and had a complete new set cut from the VIN. Here are the keys' part numbers:
The master is 90999-00186 the sub is 90999-00188 the master w/plastic is 90999-00185
The ignition was a little stiff at first, but now it's more smooth than it was with the 15 year old OEM keys. If you go to home depot you are just getting a copy of a worn out key. I spent $20 for the complete set, well worth it to get an original cut from the VIN.
Home Depot can do it too...mine works great.. like 2 bucks.
No kidding. So the all this time I've been using the valet key without knowing it. That's the only key that was given to me by the previous owner. So I actually would want either the master is 90999-00186 or the master w/plastic is 90999-00185?The subkey is the one you pictured. (rounded) It's the "valet" key. It does not work in the glovebox. On the chipped (transponder keys; which all have a rubber head) it supposedly sends a different signal to the vehicle's computer that it's not a master key.
