Where to mount winch control box?

So I got my bumper, I got my winch.

I got the winch in the bumper, but where the heck am I to mount the control box? I have a wireless remote, so it doesn't need to be accessible (to an extent) but I also don't want to run 12 feet of wire or anything.
[MENTION=82275]4ever4running[/MENTION] has his here (same winch as mine) but he has drive by wire... I have a cruise control module there.

So I am curious to see where you guys have them? On top of winch doesn't work, inside bumper doesn't work, behind grill doesn't work.

The ONLY spot I see that MAY work is the fan shroud, but I am hesitant to mount it on plastic and in an area that will see a LOT of heat, with little air flow to cool it down.

Please excuse the rust. In order to make this work my brother in law and I heated up the factory mounting straps and bent them and cut them to fit the hole. Please let me know if you have any specific questions on this.

Also believe it was 4 or 5ft extentions that I added to the factory wires on the Engo box.

I was faced with the same problem and came up witha pretty elegant solution. We removed one of the horns and used the metalstraps that held that to mount the winch box to. The plug for the remote was then removed from the relay and the wires extended and just pushed into and zip tied into the grille so that you don't have to open the hood to run the winch. :clap2:

After burning up four solenoids in my Engo control box I bought this from Summit. I extended the wires and mounted it upside down on the inside drivers fender. I do not have pictures but it takes up less space and I have done some long pulls with it and not burned it up.

Mine's mounted on top of the passenger wheel well near the firewall. Though I'm probably gonna have to move it as I clearance the wheel wells in the future...

used the original coolant overflow bracket to mount the control box, and made a quick bracket to hold the coolant overflow tank next to the battery (i'ts a L shaped bracket, bolted to the battery tray, that comes out just the side of the battery)

I wanted run some 0 gauge wires, so keeping the runs as short as possible was key in order to save $$. Also my ARB pump was in the other location. Otherwise I wouldn't have bother fabbing it up.

It looks really really nice though!!! I ended up with my solution because it was about 1:00 AM by the time we got to installing the relay... but it worked out well for what it is i think.

I put mine on top of the engine bay fuse box, it fit perfectly. I'll post a pic when I get home fr work. Addl cost was like $20 for an inverter cable set from harbor freight.

That's a pretty cool idea... I will look into that this afternoon.

It's the CBI Hybrid. It would fit on top of the winch if I wanted to hack off the bottom of my grill...

That's not an option for me.

So glad to see this thread. I'm having the same dilemma with my Engo. I'm considering removing the cruise control components to make some room. I really like the way that [MENTION=18099]AntiVenom[/MENTION] mounted his.

How did you get your wires to connect to the winch? It looks like your leads are too short? I have the same winch and tried something similar but my leads ended up being a bit too short.

I was going to put my winch connector behind the logo in the grill. I've seen it from another member here and it was slick. Once I realized I needed longer leads I decided against it.

my control box just puts a slight bit of pressure on the grill. so far it seems fine.

this doesn't necessarily help you on where to mount the box, but I added remote switches both in the cab, and at the winch. just small momentary toggle switches. VERY handy. one of my favorite mods. I don't even use the winch remote anymore.

I still need to do this on the 4runner, as ive only just recently mounted the winch and bumper. but ive had the switches on my truck for a while now. they work GREAT

How did you get your wires to connect to the winch? It looks like your leads are too short? I have the same winch and tried something similar but my leads ended up being a bit too short.

I was going to put my winch connector behind the logo in the grill. I've seen it from another member here and it was slick. Once I realized I needed longer leads I decided against it.

I spent $30 bucks at napa and made longer leads. Shittybilt sucks for lead length... they are basically designed for jeeps..

I see, did you extend the $hittybilts or just make all new ones?
