Hi, bought a 1997 4runner recently, 4cyl. I'm new to Toyotas, can't seem to find the fuel filter. I looked under the driverside of the car and under the steering wheel area... nothing. Im guessing it housed in this thing under the manifold? if so, man what a horrible place to put that...

I think that's your starter...

The above is right for the v6. Not sure about the 4cylinder.

im pretty sure its in the same place, the fuel lines are the same up to the motor, so it would stand to reason that the filter is in the same location. check the inside of the frame rail under the drivers seat. their should be a smallish round canister with a line coming in one side and going out the other, and a bracket holding it to the frame. that is your fuel filter.

Nope, that's your starter, you fuel filter is directly under the intake manifold on the block, black canister, line in each side, worst possible spot.

welp there you go, 3rz owner as spoken... apparently is in the same spot they put them on the 22re motors... have fun:crazy:

Yep I found it... its hiding just behind that housing thing, which someone said is the starter. This is going to suck...

are you guys sure about this? i thought fuel filter was on the bottom of the truck...

On the 4cylinder its on the driver side in between the intake manifold I believe you need a 14mm to loosen the banjo bolts and a 10mm to loosen the bracket

That is definitely the filter, I would disconnect the fuel lines from it before you go any further.

:thumb3::typing:

or follow the fuel lines until they hit the actual filter.
