This is not true 2wd runner were optioned with a locker just like a 4wd, 99 was the last year for the option at all in the runner.

Well, I've never seen or heard of a 2wd 3rd gen 4Runner factory equipped with an E-locker.

Furthermore, according to every year of 3rd gen 4Runner brochure, the E-locker was not available on 2wd models.

Finally, the E-locker was a factory option on 4wd 4Runners, through the 2000 model year.

No pissing match here, I'm simply informing you of what Toyota states in their own literature.

It clearly states that the E-locker was "Not Available" on 2wd 3rd gen 4Runners. Ever.


Maybe you're thinking of 2wd Tacoma's? They did have the E-locker on 2wd Prerunner Tacoma's.

Just to clarify your edit of my post, the "E-locker" term is used on here to describe the Electrically actuated Rear Differential Locker. That was optional on '96-'00 4wd 4Runners.

The "Center Diff Lock" was on '99-'00 4wd Limited's, and all 4wd '01-'02 models.

Take a look at the very bottom of the picture. I searched for a 2002 4Runner rear axle parts diagram in the system and this is the same picture that popped up. Perhaps they just carried over existing files?

That would be a possible explanation. All I can tell you is that the Rear Diff Locker or "E-locker", was not available in '01-'02.
