which 2001 4runner seats are interchangeable

I would think any other 3rd gen year would work.

Any will bolt in from 96-02, but the fabric types change over the years and trim levels.

Not sure what condition your driver seat is currently in but I've seen some switch their driver seat for the passenger seat. Thought that was interesting. Something I'll probably end up doing to even out the wear

I don't think I've come across any write ups but have seen the end result. I wanna say the couple I've seen only had the bottoms changed out & not the back support.

If it's like the 2nd gen, the bottoms just unbolt with 4 bolts and swap right over, the backs are 4 bolts as well, but there is no good way to access the upper bolts, and it makes it the biggest PITA I've ever faced with interior work.

I've swapped the bottom passenger side in a '99 with one from a 96-98 (can't remember the year off the top of my head). The only issue i had was that the 99 seat had a pressure sensor molded/glued onto the foam cushion under the leather (most likely for the airbag), whereas the older 3rd gen leather seat bottom did not.

Other than that it's 4 bolts and easy as pie.
