Which ABS fuse do I pull in my '01

I'm have an over active ABS issue in my 2001 - ABS is kicking in coming to a stop at slow speeds when it's dry. I'm aware this is likely a wheel speed sensor issue and I flashed for ABS codes which pointed me to a likely issue with the front right sensor. Looks to be seated well, new part ordered, etc.

In the meantime, I want to temporarily disable my ABS so I can drive it safely until I can get the new sensor in. I have read a ton of ABS disable threads and I can't find a clear answer as to which ABS fuse I should pull in order to disable the system without any alarms or other issues.

Under the hood, I have a 60 amp and a 40 amp on the driver's side fuse box, and on thr passenger's side I have ABS SOL and ABS MTR (which I'm assuming I should leave alone).

Does anyone know which fuse I should pull?

I also read that I'll need to unbolt the fuse box and turn it over so I can bolt the fuse itself from the bottom of the box. I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Well, I pulled the 60 amp fuse and it completely cut power to the rest of the vehicle. I put it back it and pulled the 40 amp fuse and my power brakes seemed to be gone - no hydraulic pump noise and pedal was super stiff.

How else can I temporarily disable abs so I can drive with normal brakes until I fix the root issue?

If yours is the same as my 2000 I unplugged this connector on the passenger side of the engine bay to disable my horrible ABS.
The one with the black duct tape on it.

Thanks so much - from what I've read they are a little different but I'll have a look and try that out if I can find the same one.

You can also disconnect any ABS sensor from it's plug and leave it that way. It will trigger malfunction in ABS ecu and deactivate it

First thing I do with a new vehicle is unplug ABS. Pull the plugs, done. I'd rather be able to stop than choose what I smash into.

What plugs do you pull - wheel speed sensors? Does this affect speedometer or anything else?

Don't ask me hard questions lol. Just poke around under the hood until you find the plugs that trigger your dashboard dummy light. There, you're now a dummy like me. It doesn't affect anything else on 97 Toyotas, never tried it on anything newer.

Check your rear axle seals. Oil in the tone ring cavity can send some improper inputs to the ABS computer.

I am thinking the speedometer runs off the rear abs sensors.. The front are just for abs. However, I would like someone to verify this information..

honestly you cant temp disable the ABS on the 01 and 02 as those master cylinders are both a abs pump and master cylinder one piece. Sadly, very common issue with those last 2 years of the 3rd gens. Plus $$$ when they go bad.

Those and the throttle bodies are both very pricey parts to replace as the throttle body is a stepper motor and thus why its so costly...:-(

The speedometer needs 2 or more working wheel sensors to work, doesn't matter which ones, based on my understanding - at least on ABS-equipped '96-'00. All bets are off with the '01/'02 since there is so much more integration with the master cylinder, abs and traction control.

Yup I think the OP maybe looking at having to replace his entire brake ABS unit with another one.. :-( I don't even know of anyone rebuilding those.. We maybe able to find him a used one off some the recycle's.

Well just to follow up with this - my intermittent ABS problem stopped happening for now. I tested the speed sensor in question with a multimeter and it tested the same as the new one, so I left it. The screw was a little loose, but it seemed it was seated really well.

I guess if the problem returns I'll try just unplugging one of the speed sensors to disable the ABS until I can take a look at other possible causes.
