My 4Runner didn't have the engine cover in place when I got it.

Is it supposed to be the black version or silver one?

And are these metal or plastic?

They are plastic. You can use either one, really doesn't matter. I don't run one at all, they are basically pointless.

Thanks.
Good to know that either will fit.

I'm just trying to make the engine compartment look a little nicer.
So I figured I'd go for the factory look.

I have the silver one (VVTI 2UZ). A quick search online shows the sliver one on VVTI and non VVTI models. They also need a pair of brackets that sit on the manifold.

VVTI engines will have VVT-i on the cover. The 2 covers the OP posted are for non-VVTi engines. My 2003 is non-VVTi and came with the silver cover originally.

Glad you posted this .... I see I'm also missing a cover over the radiator. lol

The plastic cover for the radiator on mine is severely chopped down now. You can see the difference if you compare the pic I posted with the engine cover to the one you replied to.

Edit - Actually that doesn't show it. This one does. You can see it goes over top of the headlights and down each side of them as well.
