BMW HIDs are 4300k. they have the blue/purple look due to the projector lenses. anything above 6000k would not be useful for lighting up the road due to too much color and less lumens.
 
i dont want it to be like bright white, but i still wanna get the 8000K, i juss wanna noe how itll look like on a 4runner
 
hey jason b, so any manufacturers guarantee that the beam pattern is calibrated accurately? Or do you have to tune the depth on installation? And, what is your opinion on the hid bulbs that move for hi/lo beams?

I've had many happy people with the ones on my link. So far you can pretty much put them in, and if any adjustments need to be made, you adjust the headlight aiming. I also have a version for hi/lo beams. They have a motorized shield that moves to allow the beam pattern to go higher. They are about $100 more than the standard set. Most don't go with it, since you really won't need high beams again, but it's avail.
 
Don't get 8000k HIDs

I did a lot of research on the Lexus GX470 website and found that most people choose the 4300k (most common on stock HID-equipped vehicles) or 6000k (a little more blue/purple, but some loss of lumens - brightness). The kits that offer 8000k or more are mostly for looks and do not increase your headlights' capabilites. Check out XenonDepot's website (most common kits purchased by the GX470 guys) and see what they have. You don't have to get the "Extreme HID" kits to have the HID look or function. See what others have done and see what you like.

maybe ill get the 6000k, i still like the 8000k kuss i like the blue look, gota match the blue interior and the blue led for my compustar alarm and my blue compustar remote lol i got the 2W900FM-A
 
too much blue attracts the police, and technically running hid on a non hid housing is illegal.
i do it but i have a modified casper shield so it does not glare.
and they are 4300k d2r out of a nissan maxima.
I have projectors and d2s bulbs, but need a set of the newer clear headlights to disect and do it the right way.
 
what can the police do? california law says that u have to have atleast a workin pair of headlights infront of the front axel lol
 
It's all how the local police, etc, are in your area. I personally know around here, I don't need to worry. If you are in a small town where local police want to get you for anything and everything that is different.

Now, the only thing you have going for you is having a newer/expensive looking suv, where is looks more common place. Luckily, the 4Runner still looks this way. : )
 
im in oakland, east oakland and cops dont really do crap, wells im in the ghetto kuss i live in the ghetto, if u been to oakland u should knoe wat im talkin about

uhh, write you a ticket, as you would be directly violating a DOT rule.

do you have the HIDs on your 4runner?

i see how they look with the frosted lights but does anyone have a pic with the new 99+ headlights? is there still a glare?

and what does the casper shield look like?

The lights look good both ways. They actually shine a little more blue with the old headlights, but still look great in the new ones.

I haven't had time to install in my own truck, BUT, I have installed the HID kit we sell in about 3-4 4Runners. I guess we've gotten lucky as there isn't any glare or issues with this kit. It's a sweet system, 100% made in japan, and 1 year warranty on bulbs, 2 year on ballast. For 96-02, you want the H4 version.

so is the difference with these and the ones on the new acura TLs and new BMWs that the new cars have projectors? is that what gives them the small circle of light contained in their housing compared to the HID?
 
yea projectors are what give that look and also a defined cut off line (against a wall for example).

But i have a question. Im looking at conversion kits and i noticed that some have ballasts and a relay harness whereas other only have the ballast. whats the benefit of the relay harness? is it necessary? is it harder to install? does it give the bulbs better performance?
